Mrs. Effie Evans

Mrs. Effie A. (Williams) Evans was born April 12, 1881, the daughter of Elizabeth and John Dugan, near Windyville, Mo. and passed away June 6, 1954 at the home east of Buffalo, Mo., being 73 years, 1 month and 6 days at the time of her homegoing.
She was married to Charlie Williams Feb. 27, 1902.  To this happy union five children were born.  They are: Ruby Mashburn of Lebanon; Hildreth Burd of Long Lane, Mo.; Gus Williams of Marshall, Mo.; Bert Williams of Wichita, Kansas; and Imogene Johnston of Kansas City, Mo., six grandchildren, Roann Burd of Long Lane; Billy, Eugene and Larry Williams, Wichita, Kansas; Bobby Williams, Springfield, Mo. and Charles Ray Johnston, Kansas City, Mo., also great-grandchild, Mike Williams, beside a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 9, 1954 at the Bible Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gregory Dixon officiating.  Interment was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the L. B. Jones and Son Funeral Home.

If Effie's last name was Evans, how did she obtain that name? In her Obit it does not show she married an Evans. Dugan was her maiden name and obit shows she married Charlie Williams...so where does Evans come in? Anyone hazard a guess?

I have found it was usually a second marriage that either ended in divorce or whoever filled out the obit form for the funeral home had no information...You would be surprised how many people don't know their parents info or it could be distant relative or no relation filling it out.

My genealogy aunts could tell I was the one who did Mom's because it was filled with ALL the detail.

Effie married my grandfather Tom "Papa" Evans. I don't have the date of marriage. My grandmother Mary Emaline Strickland Evans passed away in 1948. My mother and her 4 sisters were extremely upset with Papa when he remarried. I believe Effie was his second wife. They lived at the intersection of Hiway 32 and JJ, just South of 32 in the home that had been Papa's parents place, then his. The house still stands and is occupied. He also married Ada F. Sturdevant Doolin. I am not sure but I think Ada was his 3rd wife and they lived North of Buffalo.
