went to Scums last night with Mark, I spotted a Dean Koontz book. The cover grabbed my attention. This is what it says. Its called Velocity btw.

'If you dont take this note to the police, I will KILL a lovely blonde schoolteacher somewhere in Napa county.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you do take this note to the police, I will instead KILL an elderly woman'
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have six hours to decide.

On the back cover it goes on to say.

On the windscreen of his suv, Billy finds the first note.
He thinks its a hoax.
The schoolteacher dies.

The next note reverses the scenario. If Billy takes the note to the police,  a mother of two young children will die. If he doesnt, an unmarried man who wont be much missed will die.

Billy must think the unthinkable, fast, in an accelerating nightmare. More communications from the killer follow, with even tighter deadlines. Each is more personal, more confrontational than the last until he is isolated, with no one to rely on but himself. Finally he must risk everything to save the intended victims.

It was one of those books that you read the cover of and just have to have. I bought it and started reading it in the car on the way home

I'll follow up with a review when I've finished it, and I dont think you'll have long to wait!!!

Well I read it!
It was unputdownable. It was full of surprises, and very fast paced, while at the same time giving you a good feel for the characters. The end was a total surprise and the whole book just kept me totally gripped.
