Hellloooooo....
I'm home after a lovely week away, but more about that later.
Ann we saw Road to Rodanthe and loved the first two thirds of the film but not the last third. It wasn't the ending I wanted.
I actually got to see Mamma Mia as well on another night! What a brill film. It is now on my christmas wish list for someone to buy me the DVD.
We also saw 'Taken' with Liam Neeson, excellent film if a bit far fetched and gory at times but well worth a viewing if you fancy seeing a decent film.

Ann I am so, so sorry to hear about that poor young man and his family. It is too scary for words and thoughts how someone can become so ill so quickly and then die. God Bless the family at this tragic time.

Great news about your op...at least this way you won't be worrying and wondering till December, and believe me if it goes as well as my Dad's second one did and you get the pain reief sorted first thing you'll be gadding about very well by christmas day.
All the very best Ann for the 12th.

Robert's visit to the hospital to see the orthopod consultant went well on the day before we went to Malta and he has received a letter to say he will go into hospital on the 20th to have one fo the four screws removed in the ankle area. There is a danger of necrosis as he will be having to cut through the muscle graft to remove the screw. On Monday I need to ring the hospital and book a pre-op appointment for him asap.

I have got a letter as well asking me to ring to book an appointment for the biomechanical assessment on my feet.

Re the clothes...I used to find it difficult to have a clear out and would have a mass session getting rid of things I'd never really worn or would be likely to wear or they had gone out of fashion.
Now I try to buy items to replace favourites that are wearing out and when I get the replacement I chuck/give away the old one.

I've been trying to look at your pics Farmeress but can't find them, I wonder if msn is being a temporary P.I.T.A! I'll try again tomorrow.

Oh Farmeress just for a moment I had a pang of conscience when you mentioned shearing the ewes and getting ready for market once they have been weaned.

Don't mention Obama!!! Wac has driven me daft with Sky news last week because that is the only channel we could get that was english speaking in the hotel so I probably know quite a bit about that man etc now unlike before I went on holiday.
Farmeress I have to admit I am like your - was it S in Law - who doesnt' read papers/watch news as I concentrate on things in my mostly immediate vicinity and rely on Wac for snippits about the big bad world news stories. It is usually such bad news and moans and groans I can't stand to be bogged down with all the negativety. Also I am so busy in lots of other ways that I don't have the time or inclination to sit and spend quality time that I could be doing something more interesting than being depressed about world affairs. Sorry....

Red I hope you received my envelope and have resisted temptation.
Great news about you training up Mike (think it was Mike) to replace you temporarily. Enjoy the break and get some essential 'me' time in, girlie.

Time I was getting some sleep as I have now been awake 20 hours.

Speak laters.....

Morning LadiesAnd Welcome home Tigs You have been missed
Yes tigs we were disapointed with the film Road to Rodanthe" Thought is was slow in places and the ending was not the way I like endings to be.  Won't say more in case others want to go see it.

Yes it was so sad and so unexpected about that young man dying.  The Doctors still are not sure what virus in the brain he had.  His mother now is having trouble with the girl he was living with, she has rights as she has been with him for three years, and things like his mother and brothers want a burial she wants cremation, is causing a lot of hurt and pain for the family.   Scott, his name did not leave a will and next of kin should be his mother, however as it is three years that they were living together the girlfriend is claiming de-facto rights.  This is awfull as my friend knows things were not going well and that Scott was going back with his long time girlfriend who he was with for six years prior to this girl, and had been seeing her.  All, very upsetting and messy. Also, earlier this year Scott bought a house, and the girlfriend put in $5,000.  There was a document drawn up to say that she had only put in that amount, and they have never lived in the house, however it is going to be quite an issue.  Scott put in $40, 000 money he had saved since he left school and was working.  He was a very hard working young man.   I just feel for my friend, his mother.  She is still in shock and I am doing the very best I can to be there for her, but I feel so helpless.  The pain of losing a child must be the worst pain ever, and a quarreling girl friend, going against the family is making things really fraught.

The funeral is to be on Thursday, I will be in hospital, however I am having a lovely flower arrangement done with a candle in the middle to be lit during the service.

Oh Tigs, I do hope Roberts operation on the 20th goes well.  What is necrosis?  It sounds so very painfull removing a screw from his anklek.  Still keeping those prayers up for your boy
Nice to see you Lilbabs and read your newsYes the big news is John Keys got in by a landslide. Let's hope he will be a good prime minister.  I just loved your picture of the monkey, really clever

Got your snail address thanks Red Your new faucet sounds good, one brownie point for Ken Enjoy your shopping with Joe

Hello Yvetteand Farmeress Have a good day everyone
I am off to bed

Morning ladies...
Only just woken up but I suppose it was to be expected seeing as I didn't go to sleep until 3am. I blame you lot cos I wanted to say hello asap once I was home.
There was internet at the hotel and quite often a spare computer available but it is always such a pfaff using a strange computer and then the browsing against the clock makes it difficult to use the service in a relaxed way.

My back is giving me some gyp as by last Thursday it let me know that it wasn't happy with the bed I'd been sleeping in. I am having trouble moving about and hate to sit down cos getting up again is excruciatingly painful. I'll be ok in a few days and thank goodness the boys have been stars and made sure the house was clean AND tidy for when we arrived home as I am struggling to bend to reach things.

Robert has got a uni friend staying overnight who now lives in Nottingham. We haven't met him before but have heard a lot about him. He seems a very nice young man but can get in a few scrapes when had a little too much to drink! lol
Four other friends came up for the day on Friday, two from London and two from Manchester. It's nice to see Robert enjoying their company.

Ann necrosis means death/dying/dead so the fear is that the new muscle and skin grafts could fail to reheal and die off instead. When I pushed the consultant about what could happen and what would they do he was a little dismissive about it. Not in an unkind or impolite way but more that the op has to be done and if there are complications it will be discussed when necessary. I have every faith in this man as he has cared for Robert magnificently so far so have no doubts he will continue to do so.

I had a long strange dream last night about my check up tomorrow with the gynaecologist and hope it's not a sign of things to come. Hopefully my bloods will all be showing everything is ok and an internal will also support this. I can't believe that this time last year I was on count down to going into hospital. I'd be thinking now, 18 days.... Still I'm not, and have recovered magnificently and will be able to plan christmas as normal this year, unfortunately!  Oh how nice it would be for someone else to offer to wine and dine 13/15 of us.

Think it is time I got up and instructed Wac what I need cleaning/lifting etc etc  Washer on, me in the shower and then off to Tesco to buy some lovely ingredients for a real Sunday roast as I have missed having a 'proper' meal this week.
We have enjoyed a plentiful and varied breakfast everyday in the hotel and had a lovely meal in a cafe or restaurant whilst out and about but after a while all the menus are all the same and most didn't have a roast dish available. I was very brave one day and actually tried the seasonal maltese speciality Lampuki - a type of fish. It was quite nice but not something I would have again as I'm not a big lover of fish other than salmon and tuna but at least now I can say I've tried it after quite a few years of thinking "next time I'm on holiday I'll try it".

Before I go though I'll reflect back as briefly on my hol as possible, perhaps doing it on a daily basis of 'this time last week'...... but I'll add Sat and Sun here today seeing as Sat has now gone...

First though I'll copy and paste what I have typed so far 'just in case'....

....On Friday night it was quite difficult getting to sleep by 1030pm but somehow I did. When the alarm went off at 2.30am I was oh so tempted to think sod the holiday I'm staying bed!
Check in etc was all uneventful however boarding the plane was a bit of a free for all at 6.45am as Easyjet operate a 'choose your own seat when on board policy'! Fortunately we got sat next to a pleasant man a similar age to Wac who spoke enough to be polite but not too much you were wishing he'd shut up! I was next to the window and as always loved the experience of the take off...wheeeeee!

It was overcast but warm on arrival at Malta and waiting for us was the taxi driver we had always used when we had the villa. Had we known though we'd have hired a car at the airport as the taxi charge for the return trip airport to hotel/hotel to airport was the same as three days car hire, but not too worry as we enjoyed seeing 'France' again and having our stilted chats cos our maltese is non existent apart from 'chow'! and his english is reasonable but he struggles to understand our expressions. lol
The hotel was lovely, a four star, but more like our three star, with a beautiful reception area with very helpful staff. As usual once 'behind the scenes' the corridors and rooms became nothing special but the rooms were clean and spacious and reasonably well equipped.
I don't know if any of you have seen 'The Shining' where Jack Nicholson is a caretaker in an out of the way hotel and over the severe winter months he and his family look after the place. Well the corridors are very long and at the end there was a lift with stainless steel doors that were highly polished and these corridors and lift feature heavily in the film. Ours reminded me so much of that. lol

Our room was on the 5th floor and mid way down a long corridor but ideally placed for either accessing the restaurant lift or the reception one on the other end of the corridor. The room was the opposite side to the pool which was great as the sun wasn't on the patio windows for more than a short period of time each day which would have meant our room would have been stifling and I do not do heat!!

I quickly unpacked, changed into my 'summer' clothes and off we went to explore. It was a little bit too hot for me initially despite being overcast with odd spells of sunshine but it was so nice to be out of the freezing cold we'd left at home I wasn't going to complain, well not much.

By then it was about 2.30 so we had a late lunch in one of our favourite restaurants in Bugibba.
Malta is an hour in front of us, so by 5.30pm it was pitch black. We ventured back to the hotel after having had a lovely walk along the coast  in the sun and then spent a relaxing few hours in the bedroom before having an early night to catch up on 5 hours missed sleep from the previous night.

Sunday we were up by about 8am and down to have our first brekkie in the hotel at around 9am. The dining room/restaurant was about 2/3 full with other guests even at that time. The choice of food was wonderful 5 cereals, toast, cakes, fried, boiled, poached and scrambled eggs. Beans, sausage, sliced potatoes, jam, butter, crusty bread, fruit, yogurt, ham, cheese, etc. There was also a range of fresh juices on offer.
The hot drinks machine was 'interesting' as it dispensed a variety of things through the one nozzle so tea always tasted choclatey to me so after the one yukky cup I made sure I always had hot chocolate with my breakfast. Thankfully I'd had the presence of mind to take our travel kettle that I'd bought in Germany and the long life milk kept 'fresh' for a few days if left in a shaded area of the balcony, so we always had a cuppa on waking so wasn't desperate for one by the time we'd got down to breakfast.

Suitably stuffed we left the hotel with the back pack filled with 'essentials' which Wac carried, and headed off to the centre of Bugibba in search of the sight seeing tour bus which was a new addition to the things on offer since we were in Malta inJune 2007.
We didn't have long to wait, paid our 15 euros each and boarded the upstairs of the bus. It was a warm, sunny day and I was looking forward to the welcome breeze being enhanced by the speed of the moving bus. It played havoc with my hair even though it is now so short but none the less it was so lovely to be out in the sun, lightly dressed and having no one else to think about other than myself and maybe just a little thought for Wac. Travellling round we visited quite a few places we were familiar with and we could have got on and off the buses and caught the next one but as it was Sunday and they ran a short service for a shorter time than on the other days of the week we decided to stay on board and enjoy the three hour continuous round trip of the North of the island.

We had a late lunch/early evening meal and returned to the hotel to shower etc before going to the cinema which was a two minute walk from our hotel and we saw Mamma Mia. Oh boy that film was fabulous!
Back to the hotel as it was gone 11pm by the time the film finished and off to bed again to wrestle with the pillow case filled lumpy mass that were being used as pillows! Oh how I wish I'd taken my dunlopillo travel pillow but I'd wanted to keep the weight to the minimum but it was one a restriction I wish I hadn't made.

So ladies that was our first two days in Malta..... albeit brief but it gives you a taster.

Just to say Ann how terrible that as well as suffering the loss of her son, your friend also has the wrangling about the arrangements and his 'wordly goods'. How awful. I hope they can all sort things out amicably.

Now I really must get up and get 'doing'!!!!

Hello and welcome back from me Tigs glad you had a nice holiday . I hope everything goes ok with Roberts operation and I also pray that the muscle and skin grafts don't die off after coming so far .
Ann so sorry to read that your friend lost her son so suddenly and that she had to give permission for his machine to be turned off ! I do know the pain of having to do that I had to with my Richard  And how awful that there is arguments over who gets what and if he is to be buried or cremated that is so awful I feel so sorry for his mum .
Tigs it sure doesn't seem that nearly a year ago you was counting the days until your Op I have everything crossed for you that you get good results back .
Also I can't look at Farmress photos either I think something happened when I tried to move this group over to that new site and it didn't go over completly , I have contacted them about it but am still waiting on a reply .
Ann I'm assuming you saw that I have opened a ladies group on Facebook ? I thought I would open one there to see what it would be like but it's nothing like msn . I know it will be easy for everyone to use especially those already on facebook but I'm not sure whether everyone would be happy about using the names we have on facebook as most of us use our real names on there so I need a bit of feedback there from you all .The group will be private so not everyone will be able to see whats added in it just like here . If everyone would like to give it a try I will send out invites .
