This is Sammy, my big bold Halloween tom who adopted us about three years ago, soon after my Belgian Shepherd dog, Caesar, died. He'd been hanging about for some months but didn't dare approach while our dog was still here. We started to feed him, along with about eight other feral cats, and gradually he learnt to trust us. The other cats faded away but he stayed. He had no fur on his head, as he was covered in ringworm but after three months of bathing it in Hibiscrub and some pills from the vets he grew a lovely coat. Now he is a faithful companion, always around, but he does enjoy a bit of a prowl in the hours of darkness. He has an enrmous appetite and will try to eat our lady cat Blackie's food but, timid though she is and only half his size, she will give him a clip round the ear. Being a gentleman, he doesn't retaliate but if any stray cat comes prowling round he will give them a battering they won't forget in a hurry (shame, really, I'd love another kitty!). The vet reckons he is about 13 or 14 years old, and he weighs about twelve pounds. He is a wonderful, funny, friendly kitty and very obliging when it comes to posing for photographs!
