I don't know if this carried on after our year (85), maybe not after Paul Woods little accident!
We had two great pasttimes in the woods (No dogging hadn't been invented then).
Laurel Jumping and tree hopping.
The first is pretty staight foward, you run as fast as you can along the track and leap off into the largest laurel bush you can find. The idea being that the laurel bush would break the fall, which most of the time it did.
Tree Hopping was alot more fun but came with a few additional hazards. We would climb to the top of the conifer trees (those closely packed together) then start swinging them. Once you got close to the top of the next tree you grabbed it and let go of the one you were on. Stupid idea in hindsight but great fun at the time. Unfortunatly one day Paul Wood let go before grabbing the next tree and dropped about 80 feet (well more like 20, but why ruin a good story with the truth). We of course not wanting to get caught half carried and half dragged him back to school. Not the best idea and after a while we had to make up some half arsed story because Paul was not to good. Eventuallly he got carted off in an ambulance...... ah the good old days.
