Tales from the Woods..... If you an interesting story to tell from your times at Quantock, why not list them here! You know, stuff everyone will recall - Starsky, washing up duty, the Head's chapels, Phil's weekend inspections, illicit cider brewing, the time when.....etc, including stuff that only you and your friends will recall.....List them all here and we can all have a laugh, and not loose the memories! When I get time I'll recant the tale about when me, and my partner in crime Ben Honeyands, nearly got shot (at 12 mid-night) by Mr Peaster for 2 rolls of illegally acquired bog roll, partly as a result of Psycho's Peters 10 sheet rule! The good old days when every sheet of arse-roll was worth more than its weight in gold!

QG - Point taken - those strong of arm and stomach, will take turns thrashing him at the reunion !!

Laurie, choose your instrument   - birch or willow ?

PS -  Laurie thanks for posting the picture of your domestic communication device, however I must say that  it is very sad that you have not manages the raise the cash to purchase a new phone since the 60's -  BT (and many other companies) offer very favourable prices on the procurement of said devices.

If you weren't such a trouble maker, I might suggest we have a whip around and get you a new telephone - in fact I might have an old one lying around the house you can have (when I say old I means the 80's ....)

Blakey,
Good God man !! Try and control your self.  Offering that Laurie walla chapie a choice of punishments, last time Peaster did that Laurie chose feather dusters at 50 yards can't trust him an inch.
Laurie runs his criminal empire using A-B phones, the thought of him upgrading to 1980's equipment is too frightening to talk about (BT & all global telephone companies have banned him).
Laurie is at present running amuck on the Cotham High School FriendsReunited posting obscene photo's etc.

Does anyone remember making a tape about Olu Jinadu's fag? I was at my parents place at the weekend cleaning out the loft and found some old school stuff and in particular was an old computer tape that had a recording of 'eh where's Olu's fag'

Sounds like McGachen and Kirkbride but not sure - anyone own up to the recording?

I have to say I'm not sure how to make a "Wav" stylie file from a tape - but I'm sure you onlty need a microphone and some software .... maybe others have the knowledge ?

Use the Line in on your sound card and the sound recorder in Start|Programs|Accessories|Entertainment.  Don't know about the specifics except that the quality will only be as good as the original tape (obviously !)

I met up with a few friends from my university days, I'm not sure how the topic cropped up, but they were (probably quite rightly) quite amazed by some of my old Quantock tales ....

They seemed quite intrigued by the fact that we had "Log-roll Barons" ... those people that had the unerring knack (if not talent) at being at the right place at the right time to intercept the loo-roll as it was placed out ....

This had the inevitable effect of there being a shortage of cheek-sheets in the boggs when you need them. The Log-roll Baron would then either then sell some sheets to the unfortunate individual who was caught short (at a premium, and on a sheet by sheet basis), or if you happened to be a mate, even get some for free ...

David Goddard was the chief most Log-roll Baron in our year, he also cornered the market in spare light bulbs ... so if you were doubly unlucky you'd need the loo when all the bulbs from the loos had been nicked!!!

Just curious, was the Log-roll Barron just a mid-80's to 90's thing?

Holy smokes.. they gave you bog roll?  Luxury, unashamed luxury... The odd dock leaf in my day m'lad, one of matrons old dusters, a sponge on a stick, a junior who didn't quite move fast enough... or the secret weapon.. swipe and wipe, one of cooks nylon pan scourers, painful but such cleaning power still unknown to others not from the 70's Quantock era...

I do vaguely recall Big.P lecturing us all in the waste of paper and suggesting that we use only two squares per wipe!!

Hmmmm..takes me back to the days when I'd eagerly go to the red phone box to call me Mum & Dad , ears attuned to the dulcet tones of English accents only to be assailed by the awful raucous auditory uncouthness that is the Australian accent.
Quite a wake-up call to have such a mirror held up to one's native tongue at such a tender age!
Cool photos Laurie. Are you an antique phone-o-phile or is there a BT museum close by?
Cheers
Warwick

Hi Warwick,
I'm on the police phone-o-phile list. So anyone who lives near me with an old phone can move house.
Laurie
