Sitting here recalling things on a quiet Sunday,I began to recall the day that Aidan, for some unknown reason, took a dislike to me and quite rudely set about my person whilst I was being served tea!!. It was quite terrible, especially as he was a good two years younger, but, built like a proverbial outhouse he had no trouble dealing with me.

I wonder what happened to him, does anyone know?

Nick.

Nick me old mate, trust you had a nice time in Tangiers!

Aidan Herbert (1974 photo ref D16), wasn't he a pork pie short of a full picnic? I met him about 6 months after leaving Quantock, it was on a train going somewhere. That was the only ex Quantock inmate I met until about 20 years later I bumped into Bret Gregson down in Brighton.

He was a heavily built individual and would have been a handful for anyone.

Sean,

Thank God for that,I was just getting round to accepting that once published,my street cred would have gone for ever.Well whats left of it anyway.

Tangier was great. It was a lunch trip from the Costa del Sol.You know, its so close you have just got to go.

Nick.

Guys

Aiden was volatile and built like a carthorse.

I was volatile and built like a shrew.

I managed to get into a fight with him (on the green just underneath Chapel Dorm) one day - I remember landing several of my best punches on his mush and feeling quite pleased with myself, only to realise with total horror that they'd had absolutely no effect on him whatsoever. The resultant inevitable comeback punch from him was like being hit by a train. I can still feel the 'thud' and hear the noise to this day.

Gawd bless 'im.

I think he went on to become rich and famous and is now doing very well for himself in America, under the name 'Mike Tyson'.

Guys, I'm afraid I suffered the same fate. "Herbie" and I had a scrap in the gym, I landed a couple of good shots and he sustained a black eye, however, when I ran out of steam, he miraculously acquired some boxing skills and just picked me off easily with his right jab.

Naturally I quit before suffering too much damage - we were the best of pals after that!

Tony
