I've had a go a marking out the old cross country runs on this google map:

Key:
1 School, start of run
2 Cattle grid - path forks
3 Great Wood Hill
4 Great Wood Camp
5 Car park (Triscoombe carpark/Greatwood carpark?)
6 Alley
7 Gates to School
8 All weather pitch
9 Hill (name?) - may be slighly in the wrong place?
10 Round Wood
11 Bitch Hill - may have started the decent a bit sooner
12 Mr Phil's House
13 Stoney path - may be slighly in the wrong place?

Routes:
Red + pink jub fun run.
Blue slighly bigger jubs.
Yellow and Green senior runs.
There is also a run missing that goes up to triscoombe stone I believe - not marked.
Let me know if I've made any mistakes!

M

Andrea

You might well be right but I always thought that the mythical "Killer-Hill" was somewhere else ...

"a steep as a mountain",
"so muddy you had to pull yourself up by tree roots .."
"if you slipped you'd not stop rolling till you hit the bottom ... if you were lucky!"
 etc ...

My recollection of where it might be was somewhere near the bottom of the map ... ish - anybody else got any ideas for "Killer-Hill"?

Was it a myth like the black-nun ... (and no I never did see her on the Jub-wing, dispite the numnerous eye-witness sitings reported in the mid-to-late 80's)

Memory very hazy now but, I'm sure we used to get to Greatwood and turn sharp left up a mountain covered in pine trees. this would have been 74-75!

Even in my day (way way back in time) it was called Killer Hill. But I dont think the position is quite right. It was short very steep and you used anything possible to pull yourself up it.

the first thing that pops into my head when you say x country is RED MUD my god we were covered in it!!!
i also remember the little camp in the middle and if you cut through it you got round in half the time but if you got caught you would be doing it all over again i think i got caught once or twice and regreted it big time!!!!
