Can anyone remember the school trip to Italy in 1976?  We went to Florence, Siena and some beach resort near Venice.  In Florence we were caught throwing water out of the hotel window, Mr Warriner was on the trip, he wasn't too impressed.
In Florence we also met up with a English guy dresssed a Ziggy Stardust, all the Italians actually thought he was Bowie himself, great fun!

Anyone else on this trip?

Cheers,
Andy.

The school did another foreign holiday in the '80s - this was a skiing holiday up in the north of Italy Milan area I believe.

It was an excellent holiday.

Andy, I remember that trip. Not sure it was 76, think it might have been a little earlier. I do remember that you want to bed with a big sword - alcohol induced?

That Bowie bloke also strapped a sanitary towel to his crutch - why?

Do you remember me (Antony (now Tony of course) Neale? There is a picture of myself + Wyatt Dawn & David Merrit, posted by Bogbush on the website.

Would be great to get together, Tony.

Tony, I certainly remember you but you would have been in the year below me.

Do we take it from your email address that you are a Doctor? Must be the first to have come out of QS!

Sean, I'll have a look at the photo to see if I recognise you. I thought we used to call Nick Broomfield "Bogbrush"? You didn't used to habitate a dorm near the bogs did you?

Yes I am a Doctor, but PhD from Cranfield in 1985. You see, Quantock never corrupted me completely after all!

Tony, I think I had quite a few nicknames but Bogbrush was the only one I remember. I do however remember a stupid catchphrase that was used by everyone at the time which you might remember.  Basically I think it was started by either me or Gerry but people used to go around saying "immature".  Everytime I bumped into Gerry he would stop, point and say "immature" and then walk on. Do you remember this at all?

Ah yes! I remember that bloody "immature" thing as well.

Whole flippin' school used to use it, mostly in fun, but when used semi-seriously it was as a form of mild derision or disapproval. In much the same way people use the word "pants" today I guess.

Yes the immature thing was bloody annoying but it seemed to stick for ages, I think Gerry even remembered it and said it when I visited the school in the 80's. I think Gerry thought I started it but i actually think it was Peter Penoyre.  Anyway I am seeing Peter for a drink next week, first meeting in 25 years, so I will ask him what he remembers about it.

I'm sure also that he used to just stand and point, not uttering a word. But I do remember that "immature" business too.

Guss,

Don't recall the name of the actual town/village, whatever we visited.

We shared a dorm with four bunks, plus some more beds on a mezanine.  There were two staff with us one was the PE teacher Mr Collins and I think the other may have been Geoff 'Breath' Jones the Geog teacher.

Someone got rat arsed and spent an age clogging up the sink in the room.

There was a couple of dorms full of (semi) lumpy jumpered beings just next to our room and the adults were safely accomodated elsewhere.  Quite a lot of talking to these beings eventually resulted in our discovering they were the mythical 'girls', though they didn't look like any of the pictures we'd seen of them prior to that - too many clothes on for a start !

I reckon that was Christmas 83 as I had my birthday there and got taken for a couple of drinks by Collins & Jones.  :-)

Tony, sorry I missed this thread altogether!  It's good hear from someone on the Italy '76 trip, I thought I was dreaming most of it.

Overlord

If thats the trip I'm thinking of then it was me that got absolutely
s*%$te faced, a fire drill was then called and I went outside shouting
"Quantock School over here" and promptly fell into a snow drift. We got
upstairs to talk to Mr Collins and I was going to chuck my ring everywhere.
Eventually did after a chewing out by Collins and I was laid up the next day
which suprisingly enough Mr Collins put down to 'altitude sickness'. He
even fed me chalk medicine most of the day. (I felt like I was pulling a
sickie back at school). Who remembers the infamous chalk medicine, minging
or what. I also remember from that fateful trip that everybody, regardless
of age was capable of buying European Skin mags and copious amounts of
alchohol. Our gaff looked like some sort of bachelor party had hit town for
a week.

Gavin

That sounds like the trip !  Bet you weren't in a desperate hurry to get bladdered again after all that chalk medicine !!  - which is probably why Mr Collins plied you with it !

Matrons pharmacy:  Chalk medicine(aka milk of magnesia), Benelin, deep-heat, asprin and a plaster.  if it wasn't covered by that lot you were destined to die !
