Hi kunzite2, I have been trying to post a reply for days now and my computer is fighting me. Sorry no one has answered you yet. My name is Tami and my husband has RSD and severe muscle spasms. The only things that help him are his meds and limiting what he does. You probably notice the muscle spasms more when you are more active. Unfortunatly it is the nature of the beast and will not get better. You can how ever controle some of it. I don't know what your doctor is giving you to help with the spasms but if it isn't working very well then you should talk to them about somthing different. If you aren't on anything to help with muscle spasms then you can ask for something. If you want to try to control it naturally (no meds) you can try meditation techniques. Also the bio-feedback is a good tool to help with meditation. Ask your doctor about it. You should also remember your limitations and don't over due things. When you start feeling tired in the areas that are affected you should stop. Don't try to keep pushing yourself because you think you should be able to still do all the things you use to. I am not saying to quit doing everything but take things slower and watch your bodies signals. How old are you? How much activity are you into. What is your day like? Where exactly are you affected with RSD? The type of activity you do on a regular basis might have something to do with it too. One of the members here will sometimes go to a heated pool to help him. You should ask your doc about that too. The temprature has to be set at a tolerable temp for RSD. I don't remember what the temp should be but I will try to find out again. Too hot or too cold will aggrevate your RSD. Keep checking the boards as others will probably reply soon. Introduce yourself and a little about your situation on the RSD Intro link on the left of the boards so that others know who they are talking to and what help they can offer. I hope to see you post more and to get to know you. Tami |

Hi Kunzite2, I am the person Tami said uses a heated therapy pool to help with pain and muscle spasms, you want to make sure that the pool is heated to at least 94 degrees. A regular community pool is bad, they only keep them at the olimpic temp of 78 degrees and thats way too cold for RSD and it will cause terrible spasms and it also caused me to cramp up...remember 94 depree therapy pool only. Go out into the deeper water, just above your shoulders, that will take the weight off off your body and the water will lift you somewhat...let it! Most therapy pools have stryofoam floating devices, put one under your arms and let your body just hang there and relax and streach out. There is such a thing as a pool therapist, i used one for a while and she helped a lot....check it out! K? Frank |

Hi, I have muscle spasms also. I was just prescribed Flexeril, the generic. I had them in my legs and feet so bad it was keeping me up at night. An herbal remedy to calm the nerves is Lavender. You can warm a wet towel in the microwave and wrap inside the herb. It smells wonderful. Best wishes. Hang in there. Syl |

Hi, My daughter had very bad spasms, she couldn't sleep at night, her chest would hurt each time she took a breath, her hands would claw and her feet would curl up so she couldn't walk. Sometimes her whole left side would spasm at the same time and she would look and act like she had a stroke. This would happen many times a day. We used the heatpacks to relax the muscles but it was a losing battle. Our family doctor prescribed Quinine, the stuff that stops malaria. The difference is night and day. She still has spasms but they are less intense, less in number and she is so much happier. The Quinine is supposed to have less side effects than the other medication and here in Canada it is used for paraplegics for the same reason, Hope this info helps. |
