I 've been having some health issues. I am freezing cold and can not maintain my body temperature. I am cold from the inside of my body. My skin is cold to touch but i do not have skin color changes. I can no longer take showers, I get dizzy from the change in temperature. When I take a bath it is with hot water only. I'll put my feet in and can't feel how hot it is until the caboose gets in. Once I get use to the water, I get cold. It feels like ice cold water to me. I have gone to bed with gloves, knit hat, three layers of clothing, and two pairs of socks. Then the bed... flees sheets, velour blanket, heavy comforter, and two more blankets. It's the samething when I get dressed  and to leave the house. One doctor told me, I don't know what to tell you about that. I asked about a infered thermal imaging. Doctor had no idea where to go for one. I no longer have that doctor. So, I thought of pain managemnet. There were three in my area. I called all three, none of them treat RSD!!!!! Thank you for any and all input you may have.
Best of health to all

I shudder to think how miseravle you are.  Only had it hit me one time with  something can't even start to describe as freezing.
It was July, no air conditioning, in two sleeping bags with an electric heater and the fireplace blazing.  It was in the nineties outside.  My husband came and walked into a sauna, ha ha.

I was still cold, but muuuuch better.

Try the sleeping bags and electric heater, and try to relax and imagine warmth soaking down through your bones.  I know how miserable you are, and hope this will change for you.

You are not alone out there.  You are already stronger because you have to be,so hang in there.  I will do some research on locating mds treating rsd.  Is there a university hospital near you?  If so, these people are good

Hey there. I can partially identify with you as far as not being able to maintain an even body temperature. I've got issues like you, but exactly the opposite. I cannot stand to be warm. Warm, like MOST of you know triggers nerve pain to spread and inflame almost instantly. But for months I was never able to maintain my body temperature. I am type 1 insulin dependent diabetic and so my feet have always been cold, and ever since probably the beginning of the year, I started having CONSTANT hot/cold flashes all day long. But with these, I would be sitting here at the pc typing

1 minute my body temp was 1just fine, and the next, I'd be dripping out sweat. About 5 minutes later I'd be FREEZING my arse off! I felt like my legs were icebergs, and I didn't know anything to do other then feel like I was going nuts from putting so many clothes on to warm up, and as soon as my upper body felt warmth to the point I felt it was going to trigger my nerve pain to be set off (which is in the upper right half of my back from the middle up to the shoulder/down the right arm and into the neck) I'd have to immediately rip the layers back off and go grab a towel to clear the bucket of sweat off my face. Then I'd be freezing no less then 10 mins. later again.

I'm convinced it has to do with RSD, as well as circulation. I've been diabetic for 15 years now, ever since the age of 14, so I know it's somewhat to do with that, but the constant swinging back and forth, I believe is from the drugs I'm taking, and ALSO a side effect of RSD. I took this problem not to my RSD/pain doctor, but to my family doctor upon her advice as she didn't know what to do about it. My family doctor also noticed I have borderline high blood pressure. I don't know if you do or not, but basically he was able to put me on a medication called Diltiazem, starting out on 140mg tablets, (which didn't help change my blood pressure) but immediately ended my circulation hot/cold uncontrollable body temp.issues. I had to actually go up to 240mg tablet to get it to help me with my blood pressure, and now I don't even know how much it's helping, but I know it's helping keeping my feet and legs at a very stable temp, which is what I wanted. It's also "not the best" for my kidneys as a diabetic but it's a drug that he said will particularly help with the circulation/ body temp issues I had been experiencing. Boy was it a joy to put an END to that unnecessary HELL!

This may or may not apply to you, but I wish you good luck in your endeavors, and maybe you could mention Diltiazem to your doctor. I don't know if I'm spelling it right but it sounds like "dill" like in dill pickle followed by a tie as in a "shirt and tie" and lastly azem the "e" in "azem" sounds like the a is pronounced so "dill"-"tie" a-zam. Hope that helps. Good luck in your search for regulating your body temp. I know what you are going through, and you aren't alone!

Chris441351,
Where do you live?  We used to take my son to a chiropractor just outside Pittsburgh who treated my son using thermal imaging to see what treatment was needed and how her treatment was affecting the RSD.  She got rid of the cold pain in my son's feet.  If you would like more information about her, contact me at 914-723-1099.   Linda

Thanks Linda,
But a chiropractor???? May be that is why I am having a hard time finding a place that does thermal imaging? I live in Cleveland, Ohio. This is no city to have RSD in. Most of the medical facilities are not educated in RSD. I know what your going to say....What about the Cleveland Clinic? i can tell you stories about a well known doctor that is with pain management at the clinic. I was once in a doctors office and had to fill out papers about my health etc. I was in the examining room with my winter coat on had long pants and boots on and also walk with crutches. The doctor walked in, looked at me and told me I did not have RSD! I was so angry, I walked out of his office so angry I could not help but to cry. When and what time is the best time to call you? Thank you so very much for your input.
best of health
Chris

Although she is a chiropractor, that is not what she was doing on my son.  She has developed a treatment using modulated light therapy.  We heard about her from a woman in Canada who is head of PARC [Promoting Awareness of RSD in Canada] who told us that this treatment has reduced her pain level from an '8' to a '2'.  We drove 7 hours from New York to Pittsburgh for the treatment.  I am usually home whenever my son does not have appts.  Try phoning anytime and leave a voice mail if I am not here.  I will call you back.  Linda.

Hi there Chris.....Sorry to hear about your temp being so cold.....I understand exactly what your talking about.....I have the problem from the waist down...and my left leg is 2.6 degree's celcius colder than my right leg.....I wear a pair of mongolian wool slippers that go up past my ankles...to try to help.....the only thing that I have found that will indeed warm up my legs is a feather matress and a feather comforter....and I use a feather pillow as well.....but about 10 minutes after I get up....my legs turn purple mottled again and freezin cold....I can't feel their cold unless I touch them with my hands.....I even get goose bumps that I can not feel either....less I touch them....the cold to me is not like going out into the snow....it's strange....have you ever tried those hand warmer things that you gotta smack to activate....I used those as well along with insulated sox.....if you can't afford feather stuff.....perhaps what they used to do in the olden day's would work.....take a couple of red bricks and put them in the oven....heat them up to about 350 and leave them there till you think there hot....then take them out and wrap them in a towel and put them under your cover's....you could make a line from like where your feet go on up to your shoulders....if you have enough red bricks that is....hubby might bet a bit hot....wooooooohoooooooo...oh...not that kind of hot....silly me....(smiles)...just tryin to throw a little fun in there.....I have recearched the net Chris....and I finally have one Dr that I told what I wanted to be medicated with....from lyrica to pamelor for depression....and codeine and compazine....and I got all the above mentioned...oh yeah....and lidoderm patches too.....search the rsd sites good Chris....they mention what med's we need....just gotta be careful about mg's....for example....I take 150mg's of Lyrica in the morning....and since I take 100mg's of Pamelor at night.....I only take 100mg's of Lyrica at night.....and I never take my pain med's prior to sleeping....don't wanna over do it....they are for in the day....I use Lidoderm patches at night.....Learn all you can dear Chris.....Be your own advocate.....Many soft hugs dear one....xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox......Hope you warm up soon.....Diana

I suffer from hot and cold flashes where one moment I am freezing and the next I am boiling. This is caused by the sympathetic nerve. I found this out when I was approached with the suggestion of a sympathectomy. People get a sympathectomy when they have a problem with sweating, they say by cutting the nerve your body is not feeling the temperature as much so it slows down the sweating. I was then told that since i get nerve blocks regulary I am causing the nerve to overact even more so.
