Okay... you've warmed up with some of the easy issues...

Let's show our bravery with one of the toughies...

What do you feel is the best way for co-habiting men and women to share the household responsibilities? These would include cooking, doing dishes, laundry, washing floors, windows & walls, vacuuming, scouring the bathroom(s), cutting the lawn and yardwork and all of the other duties that go along with maintaining a home? Your answer will hopefully consider a situation where both people are working full-time jobs, where one is working a full-time job and the other is at home (perhaps with children) and where neither partner is working... We all understand our responsibilities when we are single but when we get into relationships, this one has made more than one lid fly off...

What do YOU think is the best way for a couple to handle these things?

Rat and I are always havin this discussion...

Rat feeds the animals, waters em, does the dishwasher, and about 75% of the laundary, runs to town for odds n sods, mows the lawn, goes to the dump (only cuz he has a crush on the dump girl, lol), assists in building stuff, picks rocks in the field, etc etc etc...

I wash floors, do major house cleaning sprees, dust (there is an immense amount of dust out here), feed the humans, train the horses, do phone calls when need be for appt's, 25% of the laundary, wipe stuff down in the kitchen, assist in building stuff, etc etc etc...

I think that everything should be 50/50... sometimes it turns out to be a lilm ore in a day, sometimes a lil less... it always works out tho... I get frustrated when his duties overlap mine, like walking into my house with a half bale of hay stuck to his shirt and socks and gets it all over my floors, but it works itself out...

Every couple gets into battles over who does more, but the end result is, it hasta get done... So suck it up and if the other hasn't gotten round to doin it, then do it yerself and stop being so concerned about what is fair (given the other person is doing SOMETHING and not sitting on their arse). If you see your partner working their arse off, whether it be at a job fulltime or even if they have simply been mowing the lawn and tending to the gardens all day, get your arse goin and go help em out or get busy tending to the stuff that needs tending. If you partner is working a 10 hour day in a labour intensive job, don't expect them to wander through the door and sweep the floors... just won't happen and if it does, sure is not fair...

It works for Rat and I the way we have things figgered cuz well, I hate doin laundary and the dishwasher and he doesn't mind doin it... on the other hand, he has yet to pick up a mop or a broom and do the floors or a cloth to go dust... so it works out... You haveta find your happy medium, and if it just won't happen, start kickin some ass, either your own or your partners!!! just my opinion...

You know what Ldy G, I concur, it's amazing how one person can hit the nail on the head for the rest of us like she has just done. I knew there was a reason I like that girl, other than how she gives me the gears now and then...lol I sat here reading her post and thought wow, this kid has it goin on.

If a person worried everyday about who does what, there'd be a scrap every 5 minutes. It is said marriage is 50/50, well, I prefer the "give and take" expression myself, you do what you must to make things work, it's not about keeping a proper and balanced ledger of tasks done by the parties involved.

Now Shy..get outta my head!...lol
