Knock, Knock...Who's There?
Signs and Signals From The Other Side
Medium and Spiritual Teacher
HOLLISTER RAND
Tonight we will talk about the ways Spirit 'talks' to us. Sometimes it is like learning a new language, a new language I am learning more about everyday. The love of those living on the other side doesn't die, but its expression changes form. Instead of someone's arms around us, we might feel a tickle on the shoulder, or catch a whiff of perfume or aftershave.
Signs are often identifiers (so you know who is with you -- like hear a favorite country song when you don't expect it). On the other hand, signals may tell us when to go, stop, turn left, or right. An easy way to think about signs and signals, is to think of signs like something posted on the roadside like ‘Welcome to Small Town, USA', and signals are like traffic lights - - they can help guide you on your path.
Signs and signals are the every day language of Spirit, and might be easy to miss! So tonight, we're going to talk about some of the ways Spirits ‘talks' to us. There is a lo-o-ong history of how signs and signals have helped comfort and guide our tribal ancestors, but now sometimes we can feel very scattered, and don't often talk to those we love in a group setting. But Spirits doesn't give up - - they adapt!!
The spirit world is likely to use telephones, answering machines, electric lights, TVs and radios, just as much as the dreams and the natural world experienced by our ancestors. Those we love can make themselves known to us...
Tonight we'll be sharing our experiences with friends and relatives-not guides, angels and the other denizens of the spirit realms. That's for another broader discussion-another time. So-how do our loved ones tell us that they're around? Many, many different ways, and each day, I hear of another way they do it.
Lights may blink, doorbells ring, birds, butterflies or dragonflies may visit. An unexpected, but meaningful song is playing when you turn on the radio, things like keys may mischievously disappear and reappear,
and so many more
There are two things that can confuse us though, and that is making too much of something that happens, or missing the communication completely. This is why chats like this are great, where we can explore experiences and their commonalities one with another.
Very often Spirit will give us a sign when we least expect it, but when we most need it. I will give a few examples.....
My very dear friend Brett, died suddenly at a very young age. Don't think that mediums take death any easier than anyone else. Brett, made it his business to communicate in a number of different ways. Because I'm a medium, he knew that he had to jump through a few hoops to make sure that I knew it was him.
First, my phone started to ring and when I picked it up only static!! Boy, was I mad! Just when I was about to get a new phone it rang, I picked it up, and heard my name. I said, "Brett?" Then the poor guy who misdialed the phone apologized. But I am sure that I heard Brett's voice...
Signs often catch us completely unaware... If we're looking too hard, we might miss them. Brett has now shown up in my dreams - usually with a hot fudge sundae (my fave), or someone insists on playing a song for me, and it turns out to be one of his favorites.
Or lights will start to flicker in the house, and once I make sure that the bulb isn't about to burn out, or I'm not experiencing an electrical fire, I might catch a whiff of his aftershave and say "Hi Brett."
A sign is a big ‘HI!' Spirit might as well be flying through the sky with one of those big banners saying "Hi. I love you and I'm thinking of you. I'm here, I'm okay."
A sign or signal is often an ordinary occurrence that can't be explained away in an ordinary way. Brett decided to play with animals one day. I was sitting on my balcony drinking coffee (with cream if you must know), and I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. A hummingbird had decided to buzz me... really close! Hmmm nice I thought and went back to the coffee.
Another movement, same hummingbird, close. . . poke your eye out close! Hmmm... And then another hummingbird flew close. What is this? A flock? That got my attention, shifted my consciousness and then I remembered Brett saying how much he loved hummingbirds - - the jewels of the bird world. "Hi Brett!"
Now signals usually have a bit more of a message attached than a sign - - kinda a watching out for ya!
Oh wait! I just thought of another cool example of a sign that I can share. I usually don't share other people's stories without permission, but this one was printed in the Psychic News.
When I was in the Bahamas...I did a demonstration, and for some reason at the end of the demonstration, I felt compelled to sing ‘The Rose.' I had no idea why, but being around Spirit has helped my Capricorn nature to go with the flow a bit. Later I learned that there was a family in the audience who had lost their daughter on 9/11. ‘The Rose' was her signature song.
And that family believed that this was a ‘hi' from their loved one. And I don't doubt it!
And now on to signals. Signals are like traffic lights, and we sure need a few of those to get through life! Signals are the things that happen that help change our direction, like I'm changing direction now.
Signals can be those sudden thoughts like ‘don't go down that street,' or like hearing your name called, and seeing something to avoid.
Signals show us that Spirit is actively working on our behalf 24/7. Boy, does that help me take a nice relaxing breath. Imagine that - - now having to face life on your own. So both signs and signals really demonstrate to us that we are not alone, that we are loved, we are not forgotten.
Those we love are alive, those we love are okay, and those we love want us to be okay, too. That in a nutshell is the healing work of mediumship, and the purpose of signs and signals in our lives.
