solace© : but if i think " this is a lot of people i think i'm gonna be sick" my heart starts to pound
solace© : then i worry about my heart and start to feel really warm
solace© : then i worry about taht and start to focus on my breathing,
solace© : but
solace© : if i walk in to that crowd and think "this is a lot of people i think i'm gonna be sick"
solace© : and then think "well i won't be sick but i will walk faster and look only two more blocks before i can escape these cattle like pedestrains"
solace© : then i have changed my predicted outcome
solace© : when i reach the store i win
solace© : and whew, i'm done my chore... going home again is easier
solace© : but the perspective is what changes.... not the physical reality
solace© : just teh mental reality
solace© : if i KNOW i'm gonna faint, well then why wouldn't i?
solace© : cya bird, have a good one
solace© : but if i know that i just FEEL like i want to faint and that really i'll be just fine, well then why wouldn't i be jsut fine?
solace© : to say it is like deciding to pour a cup of coffee... there's coffee i'll have some
solace© : soemtimes doing it is more like.. "i want coffee but there is sugar on the counter so i don't want to get sticky i will just sit back down"
solace© : did that make sense?
Laurelovely01 : yes and the more often you sit down...
intense_female : yep
ĞIDgEŸ : yep to me
Whispering_Moon® : yes
Laurelovely01 : the harder it is to get up the next time
ĞIDgEŸ : oy vey
Rûthlëss_VÃllÃ¥iñ : its all psychological
ĞIDgEŸ : i do know what you mean
Laurelovely01 : so pour that coffee damnit!
ĞIDgEŸ : lmao
Rûthlëss_VÃllÃ¥iñ : ty soley moley
Rûthlëss_VÃllÃ¥iñ : very illuminating
intense_female : I agree
intense_female : i'm illuminated
Rûthlëss_VÃllÃ¥iñ : lol u wish
ĞIDgEŸ : i like how this fits on so many other levels
Rûthlëss_VÃllÃ¥iñ : like most things
Laurelovely01 : solace...
Laurelovely01 : how do you help someone who's in the middle of an attack
Rûthlëss_VÃllÃ¥iñ : lmt!!!!!!!!
solace© : calm them, take them away from any stressful stimuli, and distract them if you can
solace© : if they are hyperventilating, have them breathe with you
solace© : (not in to a paper bag!)
solace© : get them to yell, scream, cry, move around... or just lay back... whatever does it to move their energy away from the anxiety
solace© : lots of people become more afraid once an attack settles in, because they are afraid of the attack itself as well as what brought it on
Laurelovely01 : will that help them to change their perspective tho?
intense_female : holy schmoly
intense_female : oops
solace© : will what help and their immediate perspective or their perspective in general?
Laurelovely01 : i dunno nvm
solace© : no please
Laurelovely01 : well you said...if you are having an attack...walk thru it as best you can...changing your perspective....
Laurelovely01 : then you said...if you are with someone who is having an attack...remove the stressor
Laurelovely01 : these seem to be opposing
solace© : ok i see
solace© : well, you can take some one out of a crowded room or off of an airplane whatever
solace© : or you can walk with them through it
Whispering_Moon® : once an attack has settled in and has become out of control your help will allow them to refocus
solace© : in the long run, id' say that walking through the situation while helping them clam down would do the most good towards changing their perspective
Laurelovely01 : i see, ty
Laurelovely01 : as a friend you may recognize the attack...you may not know what the stressor is and they may not be able to tell you
Alleged_Mule : what is walking thru solace
solace© : i hadn't really looked into that one
solace© : going through the moment
solace© : laurels' right
intense_female : hey solace is that what lamaz is about (god i have pregnancy on the brain tonight eh)..... focus, breathing patterns, focus on partner, breathe again
solace© : you may not know what brought the attack on, and neither might they
ĞIDgEŸ : but the distraction would be the same wouldnt it?
solace© : um... yeah... intense... i think so
solace© : good vibes no worries relax save energy kinda lamaz and breathing stuff
solace© : yes, the distraction would be the same
ĞIDgEŸ : breathing is very important i have just to focus on the breathing. not actually changing the can actually calm the person down and slow the breathing and distract the person. wouldnt it?
chadrandall : I'm sorry I came in the middle.........but what type of attacks are we talking about.......asthma?
intense_female : anxiety or panic
solace© : (hey they resemble eachother on the outside )
solace© : for some people focusing on breathing is great for distraction and calming
solace© : for others it makes them hyperventilate
solace© : so it depends on the person
ĞIDgEŸ : ok
intense_female : Thank you Solace, I have a friend that had her first panic attack and she's afraid to drive now because thats where it occured
Laurelovely01 : the drugs do work...short term while you are figureing out your triggers right? i mean...its not soooo awful to take them for a bit
ĞIDgEŸ : i can understand that
ĞIDgEŸ : i dont think so
solace© : as a side note........... sometimes an anxiety attack is like an outlet, an emotional outpouring for a person who has no other sufficient means of expressing their fears and fragility and stress....
Rûthlëss_VÃllÃ¥iñ : lol as long as i get zanax bas im all about them for my *ahem* anxiety lol
Rûthlëss_VÃllÃ¥iñ : bars*
ĞIDgEŸ : hmmm
solace© : that's why sometimes an attack just seems worse or huge in comparison, and that is why sometimes we cannot calm down our friends ...
solace© : most sufferers too experience 'the big one' that one time where it was the worse one ever..
solace© : that is usually when people develope the fear of having another attack, if they ever develope that fear
solace© : there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking medication for anxiety
solace© : they do help
ĞIDgEŸ : and do the journaling too
solace© : and in cases where depression is a factor, (even where it isn't sometimes), they can help boost certain chemmicals in the brian
solace© : *brain
ĞIDgEŸ : yes i agree
solace© : chemicals that are responsible for evening out mood and heloping us cope with stress
solace© : allowing fear to interfere with day to day life will lead to feelings of guilt and inadequacy which in turn empowers your fear. every time you act despite your fear will strengthen your confidence and each small victory becomes a weapon to aid against the
solace© : against the next anxiety attack
solace© : our neuro-transmitters help us deal with seratonin and noraphenephrin- both of which work to adjust our moods. a life of stress or grief or pain can deplete these chemicals. anti-depressants help these chemicals live a longer life in the brain.
chadrandall : love your advice solace.........your right on top of it
intense_female : I agree
solace© : normally the brain would recycle or drain them periodically, anti-depressants prevent the brain from doing so in order that normal levels may once again be obtained. these medications can help the brain return to a normal chemical balance
solace© : glad
solace© : ok... well... whew
intense_female : I Butter
solace© : questions... comments...criticism... downright appalled-opposed?

Laurelovely01 smack!
