Empaths

I have been an empath for my entire life. By age 5  I was diagnosed with an ulcer from it, the doctor telling my parents I was an extremely sensitive child.

As I teach I learn. I am offering to you some of what I've learned and I hope you find it as much help as I have.                                                          

First, what is an empath? You know your an empath when you absorb or feel others emotions. For the less sensitive going to a large gathering of people that are lets say sad will turn your stomach into slush and sadness will overwhelm you to the point that weeping may be necessary in order to purge. Also going to a happy event will bring you joy even if just a spectator.

The best analogy i've heard about the emotions taken in by an empath is that we carry a bottle within us... our empath bottle. If you run your finger down the center of your rib cage the point that the rib cage stops (the soft spot) is where most empath's bottle is located. Or the opening i should say.

The trouble with empathy - the emotions of others can and are absorbed into your emotions. You know hate, love, passion, greed, anger... because your human. When you pick these emotions up from another they can seep into you. Making you believe that they are your own true emotions. Ever been really sad and wondered why you could be sad when everything in your life is so good?  Some empaths when around angry depressed people will become suicidal and yet look at themselves confused knowing tha this is not something that is from them.  That is why purging and sheilding are so necessary.

Shielding - when in a large group or one on one with someone you know your absorbing unwanted emotions from you shield. The method that works best for me and for some others is the Ice Sheild. You visualize a beam of ice shooting out from your empath bottle and forming a shield in front of you. Something like a super hereo would do or a video game character. When you visualize this FEEL the coldness the chill from it. Its there, and it will serve you well. When your done you simply see it melt away.

Purging - this is the hardest part. Those emotions you absorb have become a part of you. You hold on to them because you have gotten used to them... they are yours now. When you do the following excersize dont be suprised if you go to tears. You may have a really good cry. But here are the options... empaths with full bottles have nervouse stomach, indigestion, burst into tears for no reason, mood swings for no apparent reason, and my favorite throwing up to purge all of that emotion. I would go nearly hysterical for no reason about once every few months. I would cry so hard and so long i would throw up. I hated it.... now i'm gonna show you how to prevent it.

Its as simple as a breathing excersize. I like to sit on the floor, but it can be done anywhere any time. I personally sit with legs folded and palms up, just preference. Visualize white light all around you. Inhale this white light deeply into your diaphragm (like breathing with your stomach). As the air goes inside feel the emotions breaking up and clinging to the air as though it had magnetic charge to it. Slowly exhale and feel and visualize all of that anger and pain and crap leaving with that air. Continue to do this excersize until you can only feel the big stuff stuck like tar to the bottom of the bottle.  When you exhale the big stuff you allow your voice to vibrate in one tone with it. There will be a certain tone you like, that you can feel your vocal cords vibrating inside of you. There is no wrong way to do this. And this excersize DOES work.

Find a tree. Trees offer such soothing energy for an empath. It sounds kooky but .... find a tree that you love, one that just makes you feel so at ease. Make it your best friend. My tree is the Willow. Sit under it, sit against it, nap under it, read under it... whatever. Trees will empty your empath bottle and sooth you.
