The Philosopher's Longing
R. Douglas Ezell
Oh how I love the Universe, Simple, Perfect, its beauty, So now I write this little verse, My love, in fact, my duty.
To understand it all I dream, And have it all revealed to me, Who knows this dream to be a dream, Denied me by mortality.
Yet still, I love the universe, And seek to see reality, Then long after I ride the hearse, My love may help humanity.
Then in some future life to be, When we're free from ignorance blight, We may live harmoniously, Guided true by truth's bright light.
