THIS DAY - U2'S HISTORY:  'Boy' is released / brawl / 70 minute set / first time that Bono performs without a sling / the crowd is overly zealous / 79th 'VERTIGO' show: "Out Of Control"-Happy B-Day to Pavarotti-Condoleeza Rice was at the attendance!

"Boy" album - october 20, 1980. U2's debut album, "Boy" is released in Ireland and the UK. It eventually peaks at #52 in the British Charts. The single "I Will Follow" doesn't even come close to entering the UK Top 40.

"October" - october 20, 1981. U2 perform in Leeds, England at Tiffany's. Bono almost ends the concert when a brawl starts during "Another Time, Another Place". Bono shouts, "One more from you, and we're getting off this stage, OK?" Bono then requests that security look after the victim. Support is "Comsat Angels".

"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - october 20, 1984. U2 perform in Toulouse, France at the Palais Des Sports. The set list is only 15 songs long--resulting in a 70 minute set. "Gloria" is dedicated to the fans who couldn't get inside the venue.

"The Joshua Tree" tour - october 20, 1987. U2 perform in Iowa City, Iowa at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena. This is the first time that Bono performs without a sling since his accident on stage September 20, 1987 in Washington, D.C.. Support is "The BoDeans".

"LoveTown" tour - october 20, 1989. U2 perform in Sydney, Australia at the Entertainment Center. This first night's show is a good one, except the crowd is overly zealous. Security at several times in the night, are forced to push fans back from the stage. Screams of "I love you" can be heard throughout the night over the microphone.Support for both shows is "Weddings Parties Anything" and B.B. King.

79th 'VERTIGO' show - october 20, 2005 - Washington, DC - MCI Center - Damian Marley - "Out Of Control" / Happy B-Day to Pavarotti / Condoleeza Rice was at the attendance! City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Elevation, The Electric Co., Out of Control, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Beautiful Day - Many Rivers to Cross, Miracle Drug, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, Love and Peace or Else, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bullet the Blue Sky, Happy Birthday, Miss Sarajevo, Pride, Where the Streets Have No Name, One. Encore(s): Walk On (acoustic), Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, With or Without You, All Because of You, Bad. Though it's a week past his birthday, Bono gets the crowd to sing Happy Birthday for Luciano Pavarotti because the band wants to 'send it to him on film.' Bad includes a bit of Patti Smith's 'People Have the Power.' U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice is in the audience. **** Some photos: U2tours * U2gigs
