THIS DAY - U2'S HISTORY: LARRY´S BIRTHDAY...20th b-day / 23rd b-day / "Rattle And Hum" premieres in London-27th b-day / LARRY´S 31st b-day / 2 moons-36th / LARRY´S 36th b-day / LARRY´S 40th b-day / Bono speaks at Claremont Colleges-LARRY'S 46th b-day!!!!

October 31, 1961- Larry Mullen Jr. born in Artane, Dublin.

"October" tour - october 31, 1981- U2 perform in Arnhem, Holland at Stokvishal. Crowd: 400 people sellout.

"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - october 31, 1984 - Rotterdam / Holland - SportPaleis Ahoy - On the second night, Bono sprays Larry with champagne for his 23rd birthday party. The crowd sing "Happy Birthday", and Bono refers to Larry's birthday 2 years ago, also in Holland: "Two years ago, again today!". Support is "The Alarm".

"Rattle And Hum" premieres in London - october 31, 1988 - U2 attend the premiere of "Rattle & Hum" in London, England at Leicester Square. The police prevent U2 from performing fearing chaos in the square. Proceeds from the night go to Amnesty International.

"ZOOTV - Outside Broadcast" tour - october 31, 1992 - Los Angeles - CA - Dodger Stadium - The second night, Halloween, is also Larry's 31st birthday and the show has a festive mood. Many in the crowd are dressed in garish, loud costumes -- Bono joins in by wearing a "Nightmare On Elm Street" blade-glove. While flipping, Bono stops on the image of American horror mistress Elvira, who is the Mistress of the Night" from the nearby amusement park Magic Mountain. She congradulates Larry on his birthday and leads the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday". She also explains that she thinks she would make a good President because "the voters want two boobs in the White House, and they may as well be mine! I'd do anything to get elected!" At the B-stage, Larry thanks everyone for coming to his birthday party, and dedicates "Dirty Old Town" to all the young people in the audience. Support is B.P. Fallon, "The Sugarcubes", and "Public Enemy".

"Two new moons" - october 31, 1997 - Two new moons, temporarily named U1 and U2 are found orbiting Uranus.

"POPMart" tour - october 31, 1997 - U2 perform in Detroit, Michigan. Before playing "Sunday Bloody Sunday," Edge said "A couple of weeks ago we were in Sarajevo and we realized that this song still meant something to us." Another point is that it was LARRY'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!! The show was amazing, the fact that it was Halloween also added to the atmosphere. The crowd, along with the band, sang "Happy Birthday" to Larry twice, the second time when they exited the "disco-lemon". As Larry climbed out of the lemon, he was greeted with a birthday cake, complete with 36 candles, and a kiss from Ann, his girlfriend. The whole band smiled and joked with each other throughout the show.

October 31, 1997 - REM drummer Bill Berry leaves REM. Says Berry, "I think I'm just kind of ready to not be a pop star anymore."

"Elevation" tour - october 31, 2001 - Providence / RI - Dunkin Donuts Center - Larry turns 40 today, and Bono leads the crowd in singing 'Happy Birthday'. A cake and champagne are brought on stage. Larry thanks the crowd from Bono's mic while Bono briefly sits at Larry's drums, during 'Party Girl', and says 'The good news is that Bono can´t play the drums.' ...Edge taking a swig of Larry's birthday champagne and Adam laughing at the whole series of events...A unique setlist includes 'Slow Dancing', which is played for the first time this tour, and only the 11th time ever. 'Party Girl' and 'Wild Honey' are played for the first time during this leg of the tour. Bruce Brody joins Bono and Edge on 'Please' as he has twice before on this leg.
