November 21, 1920 - Fourteen civilians are shot dead at a Gaelic football match, by British soldiers as retaliation for the assassination of eleven British officers and soldiers.
"Boy" tour - november 21, 1980 - U2 plays its first show in nearby Scotland, at Edinburgh´s Nite Club, in front of a sold out crowd of 400. Bono dedicates a rare song called "Father Is An Elephant" to his father.
"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - november 21, 1984 - U2 perform in Dormund, Germany at Westfalenhalle at the "Rockpop in Concert" Festival. Other performers include "The Waterboys", "Spandau Ballet", Bryan Adams, and "Talk Talk". U2 perform a short set of 13 songs, three of which eventually air on German TV on January 12,1985. During the filming of the show, a camerman holds up a camera inches away from Bono's face. Bono becomes irritated and pushes the camera away and toward the audience.
"ZOOTV - Outside Broadcast" tour - november 21, 1992 - U2 perform in Mexico City, Mexico at the Palacio De Los Deportes. ZooTV makes one last North American appearance with arena size shows. Tickets are priced relatively high for the poor nation, $51 and $22 each. The shows gross $4,148,756US. Bono doesn't rise out of the stage to EBN's "George Bush Rap", but comes out singing the original "I could have lost you" he used during ZooTV. As a birthday present, the band flies in longtime friend Barry Devlin from Dublin to see the end of the tour.
"POPMart" tour - november 21, 1997 - New Orleans, LA - Louisiana Superdome. U2 came through the crowd like the heavyweight champions of rock and roll. "Mother, am I still your son?" asked Bono, with the answer undoubtedly "YES!". "New Year's Day" and "Pride", while mixing in excellent versions of "Gone", "Please", and a rendering of "Until the End of the World" which almost brought down the house. Critics may dis the over-the-top effects, but its the music that counts, and the music is the cornerstone of the show. Other highlights included the Edge's solo acoustic interpretation of "Sunday Bloody Sunday", a swirling, atomospheric "With or Without You" that pulled you in and carried you to another place, and the already classic "Please", a tour-de-force that combines the best elements of U2's sound over the years.
U2's The Edge Announces Music Rising, a Campaign to Aid Musicians Affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita - November 21, 2005 - Nationwide Effort Supported by Industry Giants and Administered by MusiCares(R) - LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 2005--Following a visit to New Orleans late last week, U2's The Edge announced today the unveiling of Music Rising, a campaign to raise funds to replace the lost instruments and accessories of musicians affected by the hurricanes that devastated the Gulf Coast region two months ago. Lead partners Gibson Guitar and Guitar Center Music Education Foundation have spearheaded the initial effort by collaborating on the design, manufacture and sale of an exclusive Gibson guitar with all proceeds going directly to the Music Rising program. The guitar will be available through Guitar Center. The instrument captures the essence of the Gulf Coast's musical tradition. A very limited quantity will be produced with all proceeds benefiting Music Rising and a pledge of $1 million in support. The Gibson Music Rising guitar features hand-painted designs using the colors of Mardi Gras, and each guitar will be individually painted and handmade so no two will be alike. All of the usual plastic parts (back plate, pick guard, toggle cover, truss rod cover) have been replaced by woods from the States affected by the hurricanes, and the Music Rising logo -- exclusive to this guitar -- is etched into the pick guard.
