THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: U2 debuts in America / "I Fall Down" to Duncan / Roy Orbison dies.
"Boy" tour - december 6, 1980 - U2 play their debut American gig at The Ritz in New York. The head of Premier Talent, Frank Barsalona, is in the audience and later he signs the band to his agency's roster. The original gig in Rochester, New York is canceled.
"October" tour - december 6, 1981 - U2 perform in Chicago, Illinois at Park West.
"Pre-War" tour - december 6, 1982 - U2 perform in London, England at Hammersmith Palais. Bono comes on stage at the end of "The Alarm"'s set for a version of Bob Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door". Bono for the first time announces, "This song is not a rebel song" in reference to "Sunday Bloody Sunday". Bono dedicates "I Fall Down" to Duncan. Bono explains that "I recieved a letter about five minutes before the concert. It's about a boy called Duncan. Duncan didn't write it. It says that Duncan is dying. He's in a coma." Duncan dies that evening.
Roy Orbison dies - december 6, 1988 - Legendary singer Roy Orbison dies of a heart attack in Tennessee before the release of his Mystery Girl album, which would feature a track written for him by Bono and Edge, "She's a Mystery To Me."
