THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: Eddie van Edge / "Happy Christmas" during Late Late Show / Bono is clearly in pain / U2's Bono makes low-key drop-ins at Dundee eateries.

"Pre-War" tour - december 16, 1982. U2 perform in Oslo, Norway.

"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - december 16, 1984. U2 perform in Los Angeles, California at Long Beach Arena. As at the concert the night before in San Francisco, the concert goes on with an excited but non-violent crowd. Edge is dubbed Eddie van Edge by Bono during the guitar solo in "Party Girl", at the end of which Bono gets tour manager Dennis Sheehan on stage while claiming the U2 road crew to be the best in the world and that "behind every successful man there is another successful man. Bono wishes the crowd a merry Christmas, and tells them that "we'll see you in the new year!". Support is "The Waterboys". After the show, U2 return to Ireland for a 6 week vacation. Plans are made to do replacement shows that were cancelled in Europe in October 1984.

"Happy Christmas" - december 16, 1988. U2 perform in Dublin, Ireland at RTE Studios on the Late Late Show. They perform John Lennon's "Happy Christmas(War is Over

"LoveTown" tour - december 16, 1989 - Dortmund, Germany. The third night is drastically different from the first two--Bono's voice is suffering severely. During the encore, Bono introduces B.B.King´s band, wishes them a Happy Christmas. While Edge is aching to start "Angel Of Harlem", Bono sings "White Christmas", surprising everybody including the band; Edge looks on bewildred while the crowd pick up the song and Bono joins in again to bring it to an exhilaring end. During "Love Rescue Me", Bono is unable to continue and gestures to the band that his throat is bothering him. He misses complete lines and is clearly in pain. He motions everyone forward at the end of the song to come for a bow--the crowd start cheering and then start to boo the band. Backstage, Bono is clearly distraught at not being able to continue, but his voice is so bad he cannot formulate the words to apologize. Support is B.B. King.

U2's Bono makes low-key drop-ins at Dundee eateries - December 16, 2007
