I was reading some Edge quotes tonight and came across this one. I thought it was interesting and wondered what thoughts you all had about it.

It's a very unusual thing to be in a band like this. It's like being in a street gang. And it's all very well being in a street gang when you're 16, but it's bloody weird when you're 32. ~ Edge

Is there a time in a rocker's life when they need to "grow up" and "act their age"? Or do you think it has nothing to do with age? What are your thoughts on what The Edge said?

I don't feel that you ever have to grow up.  Rocker or not.  I think you are only as old as you feel.  Granted some days i feel older than others, lol.  I think what the edge was saying was that they never thought when they were 16, that it would last this long.  Yet i think he's so glad it has.

I don't think that U2 are too old to be rocking & rolling on stage. When they do a concert, no one does it better then U2. No other band has more class & integrity then U2, no one. I know that they can't be rockstars forever,  but they are great at it and aren't too old!!!

I don't think so. Age shouldn't be a factor. I think if the 'rockers' are still producing good music, not repeating the same old stuff year after year, then I say, go for it. U2 is a prime example. All of their music and all of their albums are differnet and unique.

I think if they are truly a great band, such as U2 or say The E-Street Band...they don't have any need to stop because of age per say. However, I do think they should naturally change styles a bit and adapt the stage show and so on. I think that has happened both with U2 and with Springsteen. The song quality is there the same as ever...better in fact; but they also mature.  Look at ZOOTV and comapre the style, actions and outfits with The Vertigo Tour. Both are great, but Z00TV was younger in vibe in almost every way.

U2 fans are second to none.  I remember when I went to NYC to see our boys shortly after 9-11.  The ticket to the show was a gift from another U2 fan and it was the most emotional concert I have ever been to (and I find U2 concerts emotional for me already).  What an amazing gift, I will never forget that trip.

When they played One at the end of the show they put up all the names of those lost that horrible day.  The names floated to the ceiling like they were on their way to heaven and the young girl behind me started to cry uncontrollably and I didn't even think about it, I felt myself reach out to her, a total stranger and I held her hand while she cried and she summed it up best..."U2 fans are family" and we cried together.  We share something incredibly special more than just music, more than a common social ideal, we are a family, we are one.

Pinetop Perkins and Honeyboy Williams, the great bluesmen, perform into their eighties.  I do not see any limitations being put on musicians. The only problem is that the body breaks down after a while. I do not think it is ridiculous at all to see 60 or 70 year old rockers, indeed there are some great ones still around and playing. Rock ceased being just a teenaged thing in the 1960's.
