As promised.
When and how did I become a U2 fan?.
Wow, I hope you have some time on your hands.

In 1983 I was just getting into MTV. This was when MTV was worth watching, not like now when it plays one or 2 videos a day. We even had a local video channel as well. There was something about this video that I was watching, not sure if it was the energy I could feel coming from the singer, or the song itself. It was in constant rotation so I saw it quite often but it took me a couple weeks to actually catch the name of it and the name of the band doing it. U2? Hmm, VERY interesting name for a band. Sunday Bloody Sunday? I thought the song was fantastic. Wondering about the band, I ended up at a record store and looked for U2’s record. When I found “Under A Blood Red Sky?I noticed the fantastic price and decided you can’t go wrong with that price. Worth a try, so I bought it, noting that there were 3 other albums (yes, albums, no cd’s in those days).

Once I put the record on, it was very difficult getting it off the record player, it was a fantastic record! I was totally blown away by the idea that I had never had any record before that had all good songs on it. With a month I owned all of the previous 3 albums as well, and loved every one.

It wasn’t until September 18, 1987 that I had the chance to finally see U2 in concert at the Boston Garden. That was a show I will never forget. Then I saw them yet again only 4 nights later at the local stadium. To this day, the thoughts of that first concert can bring me out of the most depressed moods.

U2 has been a constant in my life, having been there musically through much, both good and bad, in my life. Though sometimes my fanaticism faded for a while, through the latter part of the ?0’s especially, my love and respect for U2 has never waned. They are truly the greatest band in the world and I’m glad to be one of the many true fans they have.
