I'm so sorry that this is really long...but I don't want to forget anything because everything happened so fast, I still can't believe it all...so bare with me..I am going to tell you EVERYTHING!!
I arrived in Chicago Tuesday September 20th around 11:40am. One of my girlfriends that I was meeting in Chicago calls me and says "where are you?" I told her I just pulled up to the hotel and I'm going to check in. She said, "check in and get over here. I'm at the back of the stadium where the band drives through to go to rehearsals." So I hopped into a cab and off I went. I got there around 12. By 2:30 security made everyone get up so that the equipment could come in. At 3:45 Larry pulls in and keeps going. Bono and Edge pull in and get out of their cars and start making the rounds. Then Adam pulls in. Everyone was concentrating on Bono and Edge so when I turned to Adam with my camera ready to shoot, he moved his hand from his face so I could get a shot of him. I didn't get an autograph from either Bono or Edge but I got some great shots of them. I was only one row of ppl from them. When Edge was in front of me, I called his name and he looked up at me and smiled and waved.
When they finally went in we left and hung around the city til around midnight. After the first show was through, we decided to see if we could get to them after, so we went back to the stadium. No one was coming out. We didn't even have someone come out to tell us the band had left, so we all kept waiting. There was about 20 ppl there. Around 1:30am, a car pulled out and when it got to the end of the drive, it stopped. We thought for sure that they were going to tell us then that the band was gone, but instead, (and wouldn't you know I didn't have my camera because we had gone to dinner and shopping afterwards and nothing for an autograph..and this is the only thing about those two days I regret), Larry gets out of the car and walks over to the crowd. I about died! He signed autographs and posed for pics for everyone, and talked to us. He came over to sign the girls album that was next to me (again I almost fainted) and looked at me and I told him I didn't have anything for an autograph but just standing here getting a chance to tell you thank you is enough. And he smiled bigger at me!! He grabbed my hand and kind of shook it. I even told him the last time I saw them was 20 years ago for UF tour, and he said "Wow, I really hope you enjoy yourself this time!" He stayed with the crowd a few more minutes and then he left. I doubt I will ever be the same again! A girl that was with us that night and earlier that day waiting to meet them, said she'd email me picks of Larry from that night....
The next day we got to the line early since we had GA tickets and got our numbers for the lineup. Then we went to where they come in to rehearsals again. They were running late, and no one got out of the cars..in fact Bono was an hour and half late. We only got to take pics of the cars as they drove in! We ran back to get in line since the line up was starting. We got into the arena and got on the floor, one row of ppl from the edge of the ellipse. Over to our side, about 7 ppl over, was Larry's drum for Love and Peace or Else. Bono kept coming over and singing to our side of the crowd. He leaned down and let us grab his hands, and my friend and I grabbed him around his thigh. I got a pic of the back of my head and his thigh, by raising my arm over the two ppl that rushed forward from behind me to grab at him. Then I swung the camera up and got a pic to show how close he was. Everytime Bono would walk in front of us the girl in front of me would wave her t-shirt at him. He finally came over to acknowledge it but when he got there ( I was wearing a tshirt that said I love Irish boys on it) he parted us because again the crowd rushed forward and read my shirt and he looked at me and nodded and got this huge smile on his face...my heart stopped right then and there. He got a few feet away and turned back and grabbed the tshirt from the other girl, and kissed it and handed it back to her.
At another point in the show, he was walking past again and all of a sudden he dropped to his knee. He was alittle to the right of us. No one was expecting that, and I was the only one with my camera were I could get a pic, because it was attached to my wrist which I had raised in the air. I yelled Bono as loud as I could, he turned, leaned back alittle and posed for me..in the pic you can see his eyes looking right at me!
The rest of the show was amazing too...I really can't say it enough..and really the only words to describe those two days is WOW!! WOW, WOW, WOW! I got some amazing photos and had the time of my life! That was great, the best concert I've ever been to in my whole life. Nothing will compare to it, unless, of course, I see them again!! If you've never seen them live, you need too..you won't be sorry! I don't think I'll ever get over it and I don't want to try!! THANK YOU BOYS!
