Ok, here's yet another attempt to post on the Wall.  Here's my review of my Oct 4 show at the the TD BankNorth Garden in Boston Massachusetts.

Apparently Boston is one of the very few if any venues in the US that does the wristband thing for the GA so the people can leave the line and go about their day.  The rule at the Garden is that security begin handing out numbered wristbands usually around 7.30 or so.  Holly and I arrived at the Garden at about 7am and there was already approximately 100 people in front of us.  At about 7.30 the head of the Garden security arrived and had us separate into the 2 lines, U2.com members and regular non member lines.  Later in the day, about 3pm we headed over to the ramp in the back to await the bands arrival, same as we had the day before.

The band had arrived the day before but due to running quite late, they didn't stop, but went directly inside.  The majority of the band, sans Larry, came as part of a several car motorcade, complete with police escort.  Quite a sight to see.  We found out later that John Kerry (Senator of Mass) as well as Tom Brady (Patriots football team quarterback) and others were all a part of that motorcade.

Back to the 4th.
When Holly and I arrived there were already 3 security personnel at the ramp, as well as about 30 or 40 other fans.  One of the fans had asked the security guard about the chances that the band would come down for a meet and greet and apparently they were expected to.  FUN!!!!

About 3.30 Larry arrived, and as he usually does, drove on by.
About 15 minutes later Edge arrived, never looking up from something he was reading at the time.  His car also went right on by...
A short time after Edge arrived, Adam came by, waving and grinning that fantastic grin of his.  The car stopped as it began to go up the ramp and....
 came to sign stuff.

Adam took a good 10 minutes making sure to sign everyones items and say hi to all of us.  Thank you so much Adam.  As he got back in the car to head into the Garden we all shouted thank you to him for stopping.  The fans were wonderful, no crowding, no pushing, etc., the way U2 fans SHOULD act.

Just as Adam disappeared into the doorway, Edge and his security man came walking through and down the ramp.

He also signed our stuff, and the really great part was he made sure to say hi to everyone as well.  One guy next to me asked him "Can you play Discoteque tonight?"  Edge laughed.
After making the rounds, he headed back up the ramp with everyone shouting thanks to him as well.

For anyone who has been to Boston you may know about the Duck Boat tours.  These are old amphibious vehicles that were refurbished to look like big colorful duck things and they take people around Boston and eventually driving the vehicle right into the Charles River.  The Duck Boat tours take the people right by the back entrance to the Garden on their tour.  Several of these went by as we were waiting for various members of the band.

A short time after Edge headed back up the ramp, up drives Bono in the big black Escalade.  He got out and very happily came over and started shaking hands and signing autographs.  At one point this adorable little 5 yr old boy came popping out of the crowd and Bono ended up picking him up and played with him for a minute.  It was a HUGE thrill for the boy, his mom, dad, AND 12 yr old sister.  Then he continued up the line, eventually getting to us.

After signing the stuff we brought, including my Bono book, I suddenly hear Holly say "Bono, can I have a hug?"
Not only did she get her hug, but she also got a kiss from our man Bono!!!!!  That kid is still shining.

this pic was taken by someone else just as Bono said "sure" and went to hug my kid, the girl you see looking slightly down to the left in this pic.
WOOOHOOOO

Here are the things the boys signed for us...

the Bono book, signed by Bono only.

This is the program from the very first U2 show I ever saw on Sept 18, 1987

AND
Holly got them to sign the T shirt I bought at that same show!!!
She was wearing it at the time

Look close and you can see where they signed it

OH!!! One thing I forgot in the earlier thing....
Remember the duck boats I mentioned?  Well, one went by and suddenly we hear "STOP!!!" as one of the passengers sees Bono signing stuff.  Everyone on the duckboat starts shouting and Bono looks up and gets this huge surprised grin and waves and shouts HI to them.  Then off they went again.

On to the show!!!!!
We had GA tix as you know from the earlier post.  The rule that the Garden security had set up was that we needed to return to the line by 5pm and get in line according to your number on the wristband.  We had already met and chatted with Matt, a guy that had been in front of us earlier in the day, and a couple that had been behind us so that part was very easy.  During our wait to get in the doors the security man reiterated several times that anyone who lined up out of numerical sequence would be sent to the rear of the line, period.

Once the gates opened, that's exactly what happened.  These 2 girls who showed up last minute attempted to cut the line and the security immediately sent them to the rear of the line.  These 2 girls were NOT happy, but the rest of us cheered LOL.

Matt and his friend scanned into the ellipse, unfortunately we did not   Ah well, we still got the perfect spot!!
The show was amazing, SO noisy!  You could hear the floor literally shaking from the noise and the jumping going on through out the place.  During Streets Bono stopped and said to the crowd "WOW, you're even more noisy than last night!" One of MY highlights was the playing of Crumbs.  That song is an awesome song live.  Miss Sarajevo was also done and Bono's voice was indescribable!  He did a beautiful job.  Chills went through me.
Where was that perfect spot?  You tell me.  These were ALL taken without the use of the zoom on my digital camera!!!  WOOHOO  We were right in front of the drum.

I also have a video feature on my digital camera, which I attempted to use to get Bono beating the drum.  It would have been perfect with the exception that the button didn't get pushed hard enough and I missed it.

The band was apparently planning a 3 song final encore but after the first song, Larry began doing the drum intro to 40 which kind of threw off the rest of the band as nobody had the right equipment for 40 at that moment.  The band got situated and off they went.

With the exception of a couple of very rude drunk "fans" who had no regard for others around them, which I won't go into, the show was very memorable.
The energy of the crowd was amazing.

OMG LUV..sounds like an amazing time...Congrats Holly for getting the hug..that is sweet!!  And awesome the fact that Adam came out...you're so lucky, and I'm so jealous!  And to get right in front of the drum, I would have died, maybe it's a good thing I didn't get that spot!  I knew I should have taken Jeremy with me, maybe he would have gotten Bono's attention too!  LOL!  I'm so happy for you...that's great!  I'm so glad you had a wonderful time!

Wow, what a great time!  I would just die to be able to see them outside like that and get autographs!  You are so lucky.

The pics are GREAT!

I know what you mean about drunk fans.  At Toronto there was this guy who kept leaning waaayyy over the railing.  I thought that he was going over a few times.  It made me sick to watch him.  He would have hurt himself very badly as well as the poor people sitting below.   I finally had to put my camera up by my temple to stop myself from seeing him out of the corner of my eye.  I did not want to see him fall.  I wanted to have all of my attention on U2!
He did not fall btw.  Security gave him a talking to!  LOL

Great review U2Luv!
Take care,
Pine
