Ok lemme see here, I'm Mokijune, or Moki -- like most folks call me. I'm now 60 years old and have a 25 yr. old son who is a Pastor and also works for Apple. I live in California -- kinda in between San Francisco & Sacramento -- but am closer to Sacramento. Five years ago I moved into this complex that is for folks 55 and over. I thought it would be a nice change of pace. NOT! I'll be moving back up north, along the ocean and woods next year sometime. I've never been a city person. I'm not really, really miserable or anything. I just miss the peace, quiet and privacy along with the scenery and wildlife critters. My son will be married and starting on a family of his own and I will go back to where I'm at 'home'. I have 2 parrots -- an Umbrella Cockatoo and a Red & Blue Macaw. They're not really fond of each other but manage to get along. LOL!!
I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis when I was 33 I think. I had taken a fall at work and thought I broke my hip. I told the ER doc I definately felt something break. Come to find out I had broken a chip out of my left hip. It's progressed to most all of my joints now. It's moved into my hands this year and I think it's done that with a vengence. I also have Hashimoto's Disease, which is a thyroid disorder; Myasthenia Gravis, an uncurable disease that causes your muscles to get weaker and weaker MG is one of the diseases covered under the wings of the Muscular Dystrophy Society. They provide health care, power chairs and other items that help keep us living independtly. The docs also say I have Fibromyalgia. I was on one of the cholesterol drugs that was taken off of the market because of the damage it does to your muscles. I have some pretty uncomfortable muscle damage from those drugs. I've been very lucky and not suffered from gout for a long, long time. I remember what that feels like and it's not too enjoyable. I take a low dose of an anti-drpressant each day too. My doc haunted me about it until I finally broke down and started taking it. I was amazed at what a different it made in me. I take 18 different pills each day -- some of them 3 and 4 times a day. Yes, I'm a walking pharmacy.LO!! I'm one of the clumsiest folks in the world, I swear I am! Am forever falling down or bumping into things and hurting myself. I often refer to myself as the Resident Ditz because after having a couple of strokes my brain and memory just don't work too well anymore and I am forever forgetting things. I wear a bracelet that you can push a button on and someone will respond to you and see what you need. They also call me 6 times a day to remind me to take my pills.
I truly, truly do not mind all of this medical stuff that's wrong with me. The way I look at it is, "Hey, at least I'm someone that can handle things like this without her life falling apart at the seams." There are alot of folks out there that can't quite handle any sickness without it seeming like it's the end of their world. When they told me I had Myasthenia Gravis I think I shocked the doc because I didn't get upset or cry, I asked him to write it down on a piece of paper so that I could go home and start researching it online. The MG has attacked my eyes with a vengence and I have a devil of a time with my left eye wandering all of the time, and then my legs decided to turn into jello now and then. My arms have next to no strength left in them, but you just keep moving forward and find other ways to do things.
I do alot of crocheting and knitting and love to do various photo work on my computer. I love birds and have all of the wild birds around here spoiled rotten I think. The Hummingbirds, Finches and Robins will sit in my hands and eat. I'm working on a Red-Tailed Hawk right now. He will take things out of my fingers now without trying to hurt me. I'm concerned about him this winter if we get any really cold weather because he has a damaged wing and can barely fly across the fields about 10" above the ground. I'd like to get him to trust me enough to come to me and sit on my arm. Then I'll work on getting him used to a dear, dear friend of mine who has several other injured hawks in a HUGE flight cage that he cares for. He won't make it through this winter otherwise. I enjoy alot of other crafty stuff, but am basically an outdoors person. Oh! I also love to swim!! Well, how about float around in the pool? LOL!! My arm muscles won't let me swim much anymore, but I can sure win a prize for floating around! LOL!! I enjoy getting to know folks and helping them out wherever I can. I've done alot in this crazy life of mine but I wouldn't trade any of the experiences I've had for anything else. I play alot of musical instruments and want to buy a harp and learn how to play it That's going to have to wait though as harps are really expensive! Ok, I've rambled on far too long here. Y'all take care and if'n there's anything I can do, just hollar! Moki
