Here's my little sweetie pie! Folks? I'd like y'all to meet Ms Chicken! Yep, "Chicken." LOL!!! She's a 9 yr. old Umbrella Cockatoo. I've had her from the very day she hatched! Her mama kicked her out of the nest and would not take care of her so the lady that owns the pet store called and asked if I wanted her. I'm a sucker for birds anyway, so went and got her. Hand fed her until she was able to eat seed and other things that they thrive on. When she first started making sounds she sounded like a chicken, so she got nic-named Ms Chicken, or Ms Chickie, and it has just stuck with her. We never did give her a "regular" name. If you ask her who she is she will say "Ms. Chickie, of course," or else "I'm the chicken! I'm the chicken!" She's quite the spoiled little kid and knows exactly how to push my buttons to get what she wants. She shares my oatmeal with me every morning for breakfast. In fact, if I don't have it ready to eat my 9 - 9:30, she will start bouncing up and down, saying "oatmeal, oatmeal, oatmeal!" She thinks it's her job to tear the top off of the little paper packet that it comes in. Then she will take a piece of the dehydrated fruit and go back to her cage and nibble on it until the oatmeal is ready to eat. She loves to take showers with me. She will hang upside down on the flexible hose thingy that's attached to the shower head and swing back and forth, into and out of the spray of water. Other times she will sit on the shower chair and let the water get her soaking wet. When she's done messin' around in the water she wants me to sit her on the shower curtain rod and she sits there preening herself while I clean up my act...LOL!! She has quite a vocabulary and loves to sing along with Shania Twain's song "Don't Be Stupid." She will bounce up and down, with her wings out as she's squawking out "be tupid, be tupid, be tupid!" It's hilarious as all git out!! I think her favorite thing to do is to use one of her toys as a scoop and scoop the water out of her waterbowl, onto the kitchen floor! She makes quite a mess with it, but oh well. She's having fun. I just take the mop to it and all is well. She has her own little blankie also. It's a throw that I got for a Christmas gift, but she staked claim to it. When I'm ready to take my afternoon nap, she will drag that thing over to my recliner and if I won't pick her and the blankie up, she will drag it up into my lap. Then she wants me to rest my hand on my tummy and she wiggles her belly up into my hand and wants to be covered up with her blankie. She will lay down on her belly and sleep for a couple of hours underneath that thing. When she wakes up she will stick her head out and just lay there waiting for me to start moving around. If she wants to get back over to her cage she will nibble on my lips or my nose til she has me awake.....she's a mess!! LOL!! Love her dearly though. She's like having a little kid around all of the time. | | | |
