Enigma

There are long dark nights
When I feel alone alone and long for love
Yet right now there is a black prohibition
For those who dwell beside or below me, yet above
Heap high the tumulus which blot out starlight
       Saying farewell to Greek philosophiy
Epitomised by the bewildering Plato
And the tragedians of Fate or predestinate misfortune
Whilst living in the midst of beautiful nature,
Sweet air, blue seas and outlined mountains.
Yet I have a better plan
To equate being in its purest form
Whilst denying all pretentious appearances
       Indicative of a formless Nirvana
But I know the Greeks did strive to know
The secrets of sorrow, unafraid of horror.
They did not lift their souls towards vanity.
So who am I to seek Nirvana's oblivion
For I have no choice but help reconstruct
Our crumbling fortress, which may not
Have collapsed thanks not to social engineering
        But to mankind's endless endeavours.
So in my desire for love unknown
        Let me sleep a little,

JJ your work always touches me, and it is hard to make comments. It is there to read and re-read, and I feel a deep sorrow within it

Dear Ken, you seem to have gone very Greek at the moment, I hope it is in preperation for your holidays.
The closest my poetry comes to tragedy is a song by the Bee Gee's

Ken, this is a Greek tragedy of epic proportions.

These are powerful thoughts, I could feel the restless questing from long nights, your poetry is so very thoughtful to me
