A 'sting' in the 'tale', sort of moment
Gently stretching, she
Opened her eyes, her hands
softly stroked the silkened pillows.
The scent of the rose petals
Hung in the air, and, as she
Turned her head, she gazed at
The now empty champagne bottle,
Standing on the bedside table
Beside, the half-eaten dish of
Strawberries and the used up
Dish of cream.
"Ahhhh...the cream" she smiled.
Smugly satisfied with
Last night's celebrations.
Proving she was still a woman
Who knew, how to make
Her man happy.
The sound of the mail
Dropping on the floor,
Reminded her that this was
A brand new day.
She slipped naked into
The sensually satin wrap
Bought especially for last night.
One envelope was addressed to her
And the rest were to him.
Humming to herself, she opened it,
"Another birthday card?" she wondered.
"Oh no" she gasped, "Not this morning"
She ran her fingers defiantly
Through her hair and read it again...
It said "Now that you have come of age,
We enclose your form for your
Pensioner's Bus Pass"
She looked up, in resignation
And glanced in the hall mirror.
It 'had' been a long night, and she laughed,
"Damn the man who thought of putting
mercury behind plain glass!!!"
