Back on Earth, scientists poured over the information for three days, trying desperately every conceivable simulation they could come up with. Finally on the fourth day they decided that something had interfered with the cronomatron pile.
" Earth Base to XT 1, do you copy , over"
" We copy earth base, go ahead"
" There seems to be a bug in the system, Have trapper go through the cronomatron pile with a fine tooth comb, Over "
" Will do Earth Base, Over"
" Did you get all that trapper?"
" Sure did, looks like its going to be a long night eh "
Meanwhile, Sugermags was getting restless so I arranged for her to take out one of the moon launches to do some exploring. The rest of us stayed behind to either work on the ship or do some exploring in the moon caves that had been dug out by miners. There was no lack of minerals around, including a nice vein of gold that was recently discovered
Sunshine came running up all excited, seems they had just discovered a whole lake of frozen water at the bottom of the mine shaft. We were about to board the tram for the mine when trapper and Bigguy called a said they found the problem. It seems that an ant had gotten in and stepped across the time fields as we had jumped. "That's great" I said "How long before its back together"
" About five hours, give or take a week"
No sooner had I got off the phone with trapper, sugermags reported in with a strange sighting
" Moon Base, this is lunar 3, do you have any projects going on at accordance 377595by499618?"
" Negative lunar 3, turn on your camera and lets have a look"
The screen flickered on and there before the camera was what looked like a landing pad with a roundish octagon shaped structure up next to the crater wall.
" Moon Base to lunar 3, set up a remote camera out of site and get back here on the double, try to not let them see you till we know who or what they are "
" Roger moon base, 3 out"
Sugermags had the camera up and running in five minuets, concealed in a little pocket of stone. A worker was assigned to watch the screen and lunar 3 headed back to base
We were only 20 minuets into the watch, sunshine and I were having coffee and discussing old houses when the control room called and said that something was happening to the object. We rushed down the hall and got to the control room just in time to see it turn a brilliant orange and vanish
" Moon base to lunar 3 over"------------silence
" She'ss not on the screen sir"
" lunar 3, do you copy"-----------silence
" Do you have another rover ready to go?"
" yes but it will be pitch black before you get to her last reported location"
" The XT can make it, Camper to Bigguy, you got that ship back together yet?"
"AY Cap'n , were putting the last screws to er now"
"Great, crank up them engines, were making an emergency jump as soon as I get there, control will send you the coordances"
We race to the ship and the boarding ramp closes behind us. I no sooner get to my seat than I give the order to engage. MeWolf punches in the cooradance and almost instantly we were looking at the melted down wreckage of what was lunar 3. We scanned the area for DNA but none was found. We continued on back to where the first contact had been made scanning a 5 mile wide path but no sign of human life was found. You did notice that I said human life didn't you? Samples of what we did find were taken and we returned to base
During the night while we were getting some much needed rest,, the lab was analyzing the DNA that we found and were able to reconstruct a likeness of the creature from which it came .
The next morning we were taken to a briefing room where the scientists unveiled, to our horror, a seven foot Ant like creature. Back on Earth, ants are known for eating other spices and there incredible strength so we could only imagine the horrors of what sugermags went through. A team was being put together to go and see what the ant men had been up to and you know I would be one of the first to volunteer
