It is coming up soon  and Congress has brought up the subject again. We all know about Decemeber 7, 1941 will live in infamy, but it is NOT a holiday. Several Congress members are trying to get September 11th set aside as a public holiday. How do you feel about this? Should we have a new holiday so close to an established holiday like Labor Day? We should remember it, but should we honor it with a holiday?

No way!  I don't think we should honor a catastrophe.  As for honoring the people who died in those towers, there's no need.  They did nothing special.  They were just there at the wrong time.

I'm a no also.  Would Okies then have a holiday for April 19?  We don't need to be told to observe these dates by having a date set aside.  We remember and probably will for the rest of our lives.

I have to say no also.  If we don't have one for December 7, then we shouldn't have one for September 11th.  I don't see these days as being the same as Veteran's Day, or Memorial Day.

I don't know if I should comment being that I'm a canadian, but I really think Americans have an unfortunate self-flagellent tendency regarding things such as this. When I was a kid the Kennedy assassination seemed to hover over everyone's head and there was always a tv "special" marking the 22nd of November. Now it's Sept 11th. It's this wallowing in sorrow that leads to conspiracy theories. People don't want to believe that a washed out marine could kill such a great statesman or that a bunch of religious zealots could destroy the trade centres and kill over 2000 people and fabricate  their own answers so they might feel better. I say let it go. A lot more good than bad has come America's way and will come in the future. Sorry for rambling

I say no as well! For all the reasons listed above plus, if we recognize this as a national holiday, this will give Bin Laden yet another to reason celebrate at our expense!

(And if we are having holidays for all tragedies, why didn't we have one when Bill Clinton was reelected???)
