It's much easier to top feed the blade. You can see where you're going to feed the blade with being a contortionist. The DeWalt can top feed as well. It took me a bit to get used to it ( a bit = on the second or third try LOL) and I absolutely LOVE IT! ~Andy |

Richard, I had a Delta 20" saw that I used for 12 years, I could only bottom feed with it. Two years ago I got a Delta P-20 that I can top feed with. I would never go back to bottom feeding. You just have to "teach your fingers to see" which can be done in a short time. Took me about 15 minutes to learn, the more you do it the easier it gets. Some prefer to bottom feed, whichever is easier for you is the best way. Mick. |

Hi, Richard, I have two cheap scrollsaws that don't even deserve to be named by brand so, I may be missing something when it comes to more expensive models but, Why are you limited to either up-feed or bottom feed? It seems to be that you can remove the blade from either holder and feed either up or down, correct? God Bless! [email protected]

Spirithorse, On some saws as the Dewalt and Excaliber (don't know all that do) the whole top arm lifts (pivots at the rear) which clears the bottom tip of the blade from your work when you lift it up. Thus making feeding from the top easy. I normally feed from the bottom on my Dewalt on intricate pieces as I use a minimum clearance insert on my table and find I have to lift the piece to hit the small insert hole to feed the blade anyway. On less intricate pieces I may remove the insert and feed from the top. Tom |

Once you get used to it, it is much faster and you don't have to stand on your head to find a hole. Bibbs |
