After completing my first intarsia piece, and starting my second, I now realize I MUST have some sort of dust collection system. I'd appreciate any feedback - good or bad - on the various types available. If it makes a difference, my shop is a two-car garage right now. I'll probably be dividing it in half soon, using half for a model railroad - one more reason for dust collection. Thanks, Steve |

No matter what the system, you will have
dust. The least expensive I have found is a good shop vac, some pvc
piping, and connecting hoses/adapters. Try to keep it about 2" pipe or
about the same size at the hose that comes with the shop vac. If the
suction is too strong you will get some whistling, drill a small hole in the pvc
near the piece causing the noise. The hose that comes with the shop vac
and brush is good for cleaning up the sawdust that doesn't get sucked up
initially. I also have a two car garage and still had to build and 8
X 8 room inside the garage. It keeps about 99% in the room, some
still gets out. I have the shop vac on the outside and that helps with the
noise level. Hope this is of some
help. |

A shop vac is fine but the problem is there are very noisy. Another problem is you will find out that the fine dust fulls the filter and them it loses suction.I use a fein, as its noise level is about 65 decibals, it also has a automatic cycle on it that starts up the scroll saw and stops when you shut it off. The filter is also no problem. You use the filter but they also use a paper bag inside and no dust plugs up the filter. I do a lot of scrolling and I just change the bag once a year. Gary |

if you go buy a small nossle set for youre shop vac and a y connector you can put one hose on top where you would normally have your air hose blowing dust around off your cut line instead will vacume the dust and the other hose connected to the bottom of your scroll saw and you will find that you catch all the saw dust before it has a chance to go anywhere. |
