Ok, did this last Thursday with a smaller group of ladies and everyone seemed to enjoy it! BTW, the apples were TASTY!! One of the guests was a PC junky and mentioned the boiler, but alas, it isn't available any more.

Anyway, here's what we did - we had the caramel coating on before everyone arrived so it had plenty of time to set. Then while I did the caramel apple bread pudding demo, the hostess started melting the chocolate. We had macadamia nuts, oreo cookies, and heath bar bits and she also melted white chocolate towards the end. I took pictures but haven't uploaded them yet. The only downside was that the hostess' kitchen was so warm and humid the caramel softened a bit so it made decorating a little more challenging.

This was a bunch of fun but MESSY!!! I think I'm going to do this again with my daughter (she's 4) and make Christmas presents with them.

I saw your Gourmet Apple Display on a Tiled Sq Platter, Reba, & I must say it looked FABULOUS!!!!! Love the Twixit-Clip to close up the cellophane gift bag.  What a neat idea to do as a pre-order Gift To Go Gourmet Apple Show!!

Thanks for sharing your creations w/all of us,

I LOVE carmel apples so the other day I found and bought the packaged apple wraps that were next the apples in the produce section.  They were $1.99 for 5.  That's about the cost of the carmels in a bag and NO unwrapping, no waste (Or extra calories depending on what you do with the leftover carmel when you can't get any more apples in!) and NO mess from dipping.  You just stretch them around the apple put in the stick and either nuke for 15 - 20 sec or bake at 200° for a few minutes.

I'm confused.  If you coated the apples with caramel before the guests arrived, how did you get the toppings to stick?

on top of the caramel, we coated chocolate, then white chocolate and that's what the toppings stuck to.

YUMMY!!
