NEED HELP ASAP TO SEE IF WE WERE RIPPED OFF AFTER SELLING GUNS! NEED ACCURATE/CORRECT PRICES:

Dear Members,

I am new to this group and I joined as a "last resort."  I DESPERATELY need some info and I have no where to turn to.  I need some "average" prices on guns AND  leather cases with sheep skin.  I spent a few hours searching the net for gun prices and basically spun myself in circles.

I did find that there is a BLUE BOOK FOR GUN PRICES.  Never knew such a thing existed. I am just sick that I didnt know this existed and that I could have gotten my hands on it BEFORE last night.

Too late now.

BACKGROUND:  My beloved father, 86, died 3 days before Christmas on Dec 22, 2005 and it was quite a shock.  My Mother, whom I do not get along with very well, is in a big-a*& hurry to "get rid of everything."  That is just her M.O. and she has zip patience and would never turn to me for help and hasnt done so much during this very sad, painful, depressing ordeal. If results cant be produced for her in 5 minutes she pitches  a fit.

My Dad was a lifelong member of the NRA and a former AVID fisherman and hunter.  He even owned his owned fishing lure shop in Hawthorne, CA in the 60's and 70's. (Dave Davis Spinning Co)  He was also a member for over 25 yrs of the So. Cal Spinning and Gun Assoc of Inglewood CA.

My Dad owned (key word as of yesterday- OWNED) 4 shotguns, 2 hand guns and 1 pellet gun.  I am not able to provide you with the TYPES, BRANDS, OR MAKES of any of the guns as that piece of paper has somehow mysteriously disappeared as of last night.

As I said, my Mom was in a big-a#@   hurry to sell all the guns. Why, I dont know.  She didnt do ANY research nor even bother to make any calls to the local gunshops (we live in a RURAL area of CA) to find out what the going price is for the guns and also for the LEATHER cases they all came in.  I  didnt know she made a call to a neighbor on Monday to try and get rid of the guns.   Had I known this, I would have done some research either by calls or internet.  I had personal plans on Tues 1/17, which I had to cancel, because I then had to go digging for all the guns as they were in various places in the house. Long story, but no easy task. I had to do this because the neighbor was coming over to look at them.  He said he knew someone who most likely would buy them.  I really didnt even get a chance to open up the cases and get a good look at them.

Had she not been in such a hurry and had I had more time to make phone calls and do research I could have either gotten the info of what the guns and cases SHOULD sell for either from the gun shops or THE BLUE BOOK.  I had no idea there was such a thing as a BLUE BOOK for guns!

Anyway, my Dads guns are now all gone.  They were sold last night, 1/17, 4 shotguns, 2 hand guns and a pellet gun, all in LEATHER cases AND INCLUDING FULL AMMUNITION FOR.......$300.00!!!

$300.00

This makes me literally sick to my stomach.

This is what was sold and this is the only info I now have on them:

1)   12 gauge shot gun   with outer leather case, inner sheepskin
2)   20 "   "   "             "             "    "                  "
3)   420 gauge shot gun  "         "                "             "
4)   22 rifle- double barrel (aka "over/under"?)  note says 22 Woodsman, leather case

5)   2 hand guns in leather holsters

ALL GUNS HAD MORE THAN AMPLE AMMUNITION- that was also sold in the give away price of $300.00.

The shotguns had beautiful woodwork that looked like new with no scratches, nicks, etc.  He took VERY good care of his guns and they were clean inside and out.

The guns were purchased most likely in 3 decades:  60's, 70's, 80's.  My Dad had to give up both fishing and hunting by the beginning of the 90's due to failing health.

*****

It's too late now to get the guns back but my gut tells me that we were totally ripped off and that these guns were most likely worth a lot more than a mere $300.00!!  The leather cases alone may have actually cost more than some of the guns!

If any of you members could give me a rough estimate of how much those guns actually cost,  I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

I dont want to burden you with the details of my Dad's death and the following  absolute fiasco regarding his cremation.  This is not the place/group to do so.  (This painful mess is "thanks" 100% to my Mother- who left  me with NO SAY as to how I wanted to memorialize my Daddy) I just wanted to give you some brief background so that you will understand why I was so ignorant and uninformed as to the price of used/pre-owned guns and what they are worth and what the seller IS ENTITLED TO.

$300.00 for 7 guns and 7 leather cases....... that is broken down to about $42.00 for both the case and gun.  I know that guns cost more than that.  This makes me so very sick.

The haste in which all of this was done, thus leading to serious ERROR,  sure doesnt honor my Father's memory.

I thank all of you in advance who take the time to answer my email and provide me with the correct info- no matter how painful it may be.  I just need to know the truth as to how much money we have actually lost and how much we were screwed out of.

Thank you-

Boricua
