Can anyone help me ? I am trying to remove the front sight on my mini 14. I have the pin out and it does not budge .I have tried persuading it with a brass hammer, brass drift pins , even tried a little heat. More heat ? Is it silver soldered on like the Mausers? Que Passa? Any and all help appreciated.        Gordo

Do you want to save the front sight? They are not soldered on, but, they are extremely tight!

Are you familiar with using tools, such as a bearing puller, hydraulic press, etc.?
You need to apply even pressure on the sight toward the end of the barrel, right after heating the sight assembly, at the same time cooling the barrel. Doing it this way, will cause the sight to expand with the heat, while shrinking the barrel with cold. You do NOT want to do either in the extreme, to the barrel, or you will change the temper of the metal. Changing the temper is not good. It can lead to serious barrel malfunction, (boom, warped barrel, etc.). You can also do such damage, by hammering on the barrel. Thus the need for a puller or press, to keep pressure equal.
If you are not familar with these processes, or do not have the tools, it might be best to find a friend or a local gunsmith that can help you. Otherwise, you may damage the sight or the barrel or both.

These are things this crazy grandmother does for fun.
