I am soooo proud of my little green guy!  Shannon's almost 2, and has started saying things that he didn't learn from the sun conure!  His "talk time" is first thing in the morning, while I'm getting everyone their breakfast, and it's the most wonderful way to start my day.  This morning he started with the usual witch cackles, and then let out a loud raspberry, cackled, and said "That isn't very nice"  (Zonker taught him the raspberry )  Well I'm stunned, he's never said that before, although I've said that to him a lot.

A couple weeks ago I heard
"Old Mac Donald..." and nothing since then.  This morning, he's added to that part of the song... "Old Mac Donald...E-I-O-O-O..."  I sang it to him, he responded back with a "E-I-I-I-O"  Oh well, the boy's singing!  I'm soooo happy, I sing to him all the time because that's the only time he'll lean back against my chest and relax enough to let me caress him.  I've been late for work almost every morning these days...it's so hard to walk away from these magical moments.

He is beautiful.  Maybe he decided he need to step up his singing ability to remind you not to forget him since the "big bird" got there.
Is he about the same size as Calie Joe or is he bigger?  He looks like he might be the same size.
thanks for the pics, I love seeing everyone's babies.
Sherry:)

He's so cute.  I love the understated coloring--vibrant green, with the touches of red and blue on the wings, and that beak--well, nothing understated about that, I guess.  I have only heard an Eclectus voice a few times.  Annie's Diana, and another bird on some website.  What a crack up.

What a beautiful guy!  He and Twiggy can sing a duet. He can sing the Old MacDonald Part and E I E I O, and she'll do the cluck, cluck here and the quack, quack, there, but we'll have to settle on goink, goink, that's as close as she gets to the piggy sound.  An Ekkie would be my choice for another bird.   Love looking at his pics.  di

Shannon sure sounds like a charmer and looks so handsome.  Ekkies seem to be such special birds.  Do the male Ekkie's voices still sound like a little girl, like Annie's Diana, or is it deeper since it is male ?  Your guy looks so slim and trim.

He is beautiful, Nancy.  Is his beak really that large?  Or is it the camera angle? Diana's beak is not that big.
Sherry, I think he probably is quite a bit bigger than Calie Joe.  Diana is a Vosmaeri, a bit bigger than a Solomon Island.  She is longer than my Murphy CAG but weighs less.  Usually about 436 grams.  Murphy weighs 515 grams.
I'd love to know about his voice, too.  Diana is the only one I have heard, that I can remember.
Annie

Thanks, everyone.  I've gotta say that I think my little guy is special.  He added to his song today..."and on his farm...awkkkk, awkkk here" (Old MacDonald has a 'clectus).  I very rarely hear what I would imagine is an ekkie voice.  He has 3 different voices that he uses: Zonker's, mine, and his.  He does sound a lot like Diana when he uses "his" voice.  And still creeps me out when he uses my voice.  Shannon's never been a big boy, he weighed 308g when I got him at 7 mo, and weighed in at 320g in Feb of this year.  Eats like a horse, plays a lot more than what I'd expect an ekkie to do, and I reckon he won't top out at much more than 350g when he's mature.  His beak does seem a little large, but then part of that is probably the color, too.  Here's a head-on shot:
Di, I'll take you up on that duet someday.  The way he picks up things from Zonker, a few days with Twigs and he could be quoting Shakespere!

I don't think I've ever heard any negatives about the males.  Other than normal bird things, are there any downsides to a male Eclectus?

Nancy,  I looked around the ekkie sites yesterday, and Shannon is average weight for a SI. My Diana is also average for a Vos ekkie.
He is a beauty. Diana is all broody, so that little dickens will not get to see his picture.
Annie
