Hello everyone! Its been some time now, and I must say I adore Cleopatra. At first I was concerned with her attempts to bite me when getting her out of her cage, but with time and love it is now a piece of cake. I hope it stays this good. She is now 1 year old. Her birthday was Feb 28th, the same as my daughter. We sang Happy Birthday to both of them . Cleopatra adores me and me her. I can tell I am momma. She deals with others, but she will make a growl at some people and do the infamous lunge toward people's hands if she isn't sure of them. I have found that through love and trust, a female eclectus can be as sweet and tame as a male. It is so cute how she is trying to talk. She is now mumbling words. I can tell when she says I love you, but it comes out in the sound, not really her saying it outloud. I am thinking this is how it is first, right? Also, I always joke with her and act silly, so now she has the most silly personality you have ever seen. When do Eclectus usually begin to say clear words? She can say hello pretty clearly now, but it still sounds like under the breath type of sound. She sounds like a shy little girl, and is loud when being silly. At any rate she is a treasure and I am so glad I chose her. I hope to have some pics of her soon for everyone to see. Keep your fingers cross that she stays this sweet |

I've never had an ekkie but always admired their glorious color. Your's sounds as though it has developed a darling personality to go with the color. Lucky you! |

Diana began saying few words very early. I had a list of words and phrases with dates but have misplaced it. Before her tail grew to it's full length she was saying "tickle tickle tummy." She mumble talked under her cage cover for a while then came out with very clear speech. Not as good now because I moved her to the birdroom instead of keeping her in here with me. She can still hear me, especially when I laugh. She hums when I laugh. She's nine now and was a sweetie til she was five, when she began to bite. I lost about 100 to 150 wav files of my birds talking when my computer crashed in Dec. Makes me sick. I thought I had them saved on CD but I looked thru the CDs this morning and they are gone. Annie, I read your message and went and emailed you the ones I had saved on my computer. Unfortunately, I should have read the rest of the threads first, as I believe that two of them are repeats of ones that DD sent you. I might have more of them on cd's, but they are in storage. Next time I'm over there I'll grab the box and have a look. Abby |

SensualHeart, I'm so glad you and Cleopatra are happy. She sounds like a character. Annie, I'm so sorry you lost your files.. It's horrible to lose things like that, pics, etc...I hope Abby has more for you. Dianna has such an adorable voice. Thanks DD and Abby for saving them for Annie, and posting those here. |

Thanks Annie! Diana seems very intelligent. I really enjoyed listening to her talk. I'm glad Dunduey and Abby saved them. The tickle tickle is so cute! I also have heard they can begin the biting after 3 because that is when they become mature. I certainly hope Cleo stays as sweet as she is now. I have learned to take control of her when she has an attitude, and I hope my strategy continues to work. I have found that holding her head (not to hurt her) but to keep her from biting helps. It seems to calm her. I saw on Land of vos the same strategy being used. It helps to take my hand and hold from the back of her neck around to the sides of her head, keeping her held there for a sec until she calms and pretty much understands her biting does no good. Maybe this would work for others as well. Again, it does not hurt her, just controls her and teaches her she can't always get by with being naughty. I notice after I do it she gets close to my neck and rubs her head back and forth on my neck as to say "I'm sorry". I then turn to mush right away and give her kisses to say its ok. Thank you to everyone that commented. I'm sure as time goes by I will be asking many more questions. |

My Eevie is almost 5, has been rehomed twice, the last home was somewhat mean (the woman was great, but her teen aged son just tormented the poor thing), and she is a sweetheart. She will nip if she doesn't want someone's hand in her face (more often than not, it's DH's hand...she doesn't like men), but it is a firm pinch, which after our bloodthirsty Zon, is hardly worth mentioning. She doesn't talk at all any more, but I'm hoping that she might start again once she's completely settled here (we've only had her about a month). So, I think it's safe for me to say that, yes, Cleopatra can remain cute and cuddly right into her breeding years. If Eevie can do it with all the changes she's had to deal with, one in a stable loving home should also be able to do it. |
