Hello, A while back someone mentioned an illness that effected their stomach and intestines and I didn't know what it was. I read about it when they told me the whole name cause they had abbreviated it. I think it is what my mom said they found when she did her colonoscopy but I can't remember what it was called. If someone could tell me again so I can find the information it would be appreciated. Thanks Linda |

Or irritable bowel syndrome? Called IBS-C or IBS-D depending on whether we have constipation type or diarrhea type. Either way, it hurts like the very dickens. Annie |

We were talking about Helicobacter Pylori bacteria a while back, when it was discovered that I had it (and unfortunately still do have it). As mentioned by Flesea, it is usually referred to as h.pylori. Seems like there are short ways of saying everything these days! lol Abby |

Thank you. H-pylori - that is what mom has and dang the amount of medication they are throwing at it. I appreciate the name - I will look it back up again. Sorry you still have it. Is this one they cant culture to find out what gets rid of it? Linda |

Linda, I have a long list of drug allergies, which includes the optimum drugs for the "cocktail" to treat h.pylori. They couldn't use that, so my doctor tried a combination that she hoped would give good results. I went back a few weeks later as I still had the symptoms, and she retested me. I still had an extremely high count, so she referred me to a specialist (Dr P) as she didn't know what to try. On November 28th Dr P did a Gastroscopy-Esophagoscopy to get some samples to have cultures done to determine what meds would work best to get rid of it. We are still waiting for one of the cultures. The lab sent Dr P a report last Thursday that it would be a few more days before the culture is completed. I have a list of 14 drugs that I can't take, so it can be a challenge to find something appropriate. Abby |

That really is a drag Abby! When I visited my doctor in August for the gallbladder issue, they did a retest for my h pylori and the test came back negative. So I guess the massive amounts of antibiotics and prilosec worked for me. It is good they did the test to see what combination would work the best for you. I hope they can find something that you aren't allergic to. I'm really fortunate in that I have no known drug allergies at this time. I've only had antibiotics four times in my life, so guess my body thinks they are okay. Yes, Linda...it is a bunch of medication they use to get rid of h pylori. I hope your mom can get rid of it the first round of medication! Kathy |

I hope the culture provides you meds that will work. I also hope my mom's gets fixed in one round also cause I doubt she will even go back for a retest. She doesn't believe in a lot of medications or procedures. Linda |

Linda, I hope your Mom does ensure that the treatment has worked, because h.pylori causes ulcers, and believe me, that really isn't fun! Abby |

I think it is good to get a retest. I didn't do that, since they never suggested it be done, but guess it is okay since the bugs are gone. Ulcers can be life threatening, so good to stay on top of it. Kathy |
