Hi everyone.
I haven't been around for quite awhile.  First puter problems, then health problems, but doing quite well with both now.
I changed to DSL and wasn't sure that I could save my MSN hotmail.  Goodbird helped me solve that.
My bluefront, Peroit has been molting for quite some time.  On the messages someone else mentioned that their birds had started molting again.  We have airconditioning so it can't be that.  I just wonder if sometimes they have longer molts.

I also notice that he hasn't been hormonal for quite a long time.  Sure hope that lasts.  His personality has improved a lot.

Have a great summer.
AngelWings

Sometimes a molt can last for several months. Stress can cause a bird to molt also. Normally they molt once a year though. Extra  protien and more baths helpful. One good thing as long as he molts he shouldnt be hormonal. Maybe a little cranky.

I have had Sassy RLA for over 8 years and I really do not notice a "molt" on her.. the closest she has ever come to a molt is when she looses and replaces her wing feathers, and those happen spread out and not all at once.. She is beatiful and in full feather so I do not worry about it.

Do CAG's have a more noticeable molt? I have had Harley since the begining of April and have not really noticed much going on with her, but I got her in Florida so I might have missed her molt.

Yes, CAGs have a much more noticable molt. They have down feathers that come out and float all over the cotton-pickin' house. Our birdroom always looks like a pillow fight has been going on in there and when I open the door they swirl and head for the breakfast room. Thank goodness my hubby isn't easily irritated by little bitty fluffy feathers all under the table and chairs.
I couldn't tell when my amazon was molting, except I'd find feathers on the cage floor. Nothing like ole Murphy grey.

They can molt their tail feathers and wing feathers year round. Those feathers are usually only replaced if they need to be.

I mentioned that mine were molting again even though they all just finshed. I did all the wings and toenails just a short time ago and several of them need it again. I have ac as well but I think they still know it's hot as h___ outside. The first one I noticed it on was my UToo and then the GW macaw. I live in a feather bowl.LOL I'll sure be glad when it's over. (Again)  Peggy

I agree with you Kelly.  Peroit loses his tail and wing feathers sporadically, which I forgot about.  Now he is losing some of the little soft feathers, but not a heavy molt.  He seems very happy.  He loves his spray baths.  I read somewhere to put a little lemon juice in the water.  His feathers look great right now.  In fact he is getting a little more blue on his head right above the cere. I keep telling him he is a pretty boy, and he loves it and twists his head almost completely around.  He is quite a flirt !!!
