Hi there.... this is the first time I've posted... and I have some Metformin problems...

I've had diarrhea and vomiting for almost 4 weeks now.... since about 1 week after I started the Metformin...

the Dr took me off Metformin... via the phone... and said we'd discuss other options this week when I see him...but I still have the vomiting and diarrhea... and my sugar levels are all over the place....

what is a good med I should suggest??.... Glyboride (sp)???.... what else is there....

I'm fairly newly diagnosed so I'm not too sure on everything.... any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated...

thanks
Carol

Carol there are so many medicines out there. if you go to Google type in " Diabtic medication .

But I thouoght about Byetta . Byetta is injected ..it's in a pen you just press the button and it injects . It's not insulin but medication .Byetta has help alot of diabetics also helps you to loose weight. Some lost 10 to 15lbs on it. The first week or 2 you may feel neausated but it will pass.

I was on it ..at first I lost 8lbs ..a while later it quit working for me but many others have had good luck with it.

Hello...

My experience (sp) with Metformin has taught me that if I eat too many carbs, my body will reject them via one end or the other.  I take Anti-diarrhea meds like the one from Walgreens or the liquid form of the Immodium AD and it really helps the diarrhea.

I can really relate with the diarrhea, as when I first started Metformin I had diarrhea everyday for the first 6 to 7 weeks, and then once that stopped, I got to noticing that if I had too many carbs in a meal that I would get diarrhea, and have to take the AD med.

My doctor and I discussed it and as long as I don't eat anything that is too greasy, or over my carb amount I am fine and have been taking the Metformin for a little over 9 months now.  Wow... has it been that long since I found out I was a diabetic, seems like longer and sometimes seems like only yesterday that I found out.

I hope this will help you a little.

Huggles...

Debra

Carol.. Just wishing you good luck with this new medication protocol. What works for one person does not work for another but fortunately in 2008 there are  many alternatives to try when a medication just doesn't do the right thing by us.
