Angelbear..You said Divas wanted to know what I have done to get myself in this predicament. Well, I will tell you, but it might seem sort of boring so feel free to quit reading at any point everyone! LOL I'm sort of embarrassed but here it goes.... To begin with, you must understand, I was/am a FLUFFY girl compare me to a nice big marshmellow or better yet one of those portly pickles the kids love to get at the store out of the jar! Sort of short but thick everywhere but top and bottom! I have been this way since my second son was born 24 years ago and broke my pelvis during delivery. No excuses...just fat..whoops I mean fact!!!lol Okay on with the story...So all these years I've gone on with my life and have really enjoyed living, been active, played, had fun, etc. etc. never felt like I was missing out. However, as everyone knows I divorced four years ago and am now a single parent raising my two youngest kids and want to stick around. So, I go to the Doctor's office for the dreaded two year physical..and she(the dr. is 12 years old if she is a day, blonde and beautiful of course!!!)says that I am diabetic need two different meds, my cholesterol is high, I am probably going to have a stroke and a heart attack, go blind and drop over dead...not necessarily in that order!!!! OMG!!!!! The day before I had been singing to Gwen Stefani and feeling like I had the world by the tail as I was sipping a MOO LATTE from Dairy Queen, thinking now this would be the way to go! LOL Suddenly..I was looking at going. Whoops, rewind here. So, I am still weigh(pun) too embarrassed to say how much I weighed at that point, but let me tell you that I was wearing some shirts that were a size 30. My bra size was a 46DDD. My pants were a 24. (Okay for those of you easily shocked this is when you should be clicking to a new post!) I have somehow managed to shrink from 5'6" to 5'4 1/2". Things were not looking well.... This was in late December. I was irritated with the Dr. because I believed it was my fault for letting things get so out of hand. I told her I should be able to take responsibility for my diet and hopefully not need so many meds for diabetes. She thought I was crazy but agreed to let me try with only one med. To date...I have managed to bring my blood sugars back to normal range. My cholesteral levels are all down to normal ranges as well! I am down to a 16/18 pants but my shirts are still size 24! I think I have lost about 35 pounds but I haven't been able to get to the gym to weigh. I just quit eating fast food. I didn't drink a lot of pop with sugar but I don't drink any now. Occasionally I will have a glass of sweet tea but I make sure I don't eat a lot of bread(carbs) on that day. I read somewhere that thin people stick to the same things usually..I've noticed that I have been doing that. Yogurt or cereal for breakfast. I eat a Healthy Choice meal for lunch and then a normal dinner. If I get hungry during the day I eat some sort of granola bar. I watch the calories. It's all about calories really. Fewer calories and exercise to burn more energy. I never eat more than 1,500 calories a day. I know that certain breads send my blood sugar through the roof. I try to exercise at least three times a week and this is where I really need to work on things. I am sooo busy that I have had a hard time getting to the gym. I was losing so much faster when I was working out. However, I would say the weight loss has boiled down to good old fashioned calorie counting and exercise. It's been easy for me so far. But then when you are scared to death..some things are. Now if I just knew what to do about the way my body is giving up this weight! LOL I still have a LONG LONG way to go! I must be in the middle of this journey and want to see it to the end. I'd love to hear from others who are trying as well. I think it might help. Take care every one and I wish luck to everyone who is trying to lose weight, isn't it hard? Gena |

Thanks guys, not a wonder woman at all. Counting calories works for me because I can have whatever I want as long as it fits in the Math formula! The only thing I have found that I can not have is Subway Sandwhiches...not because of the Calories, but because for some reason the Bread makes my blood sugar go over 250! Guess what Big Macs don't do that!!! I think I have having success this time because I feel in control of this food plan. If I want a candy bar I eat it. Most candy bars don't have over 200 calories. You can have that, just subtract the calories and balance it out! Now I am not a nutritionist and Josie is probably cringing...but for me losing weight and balancing the blood sugars in really important right now..so I have to do what works for me! I can't feel deprived. If I thought that I couldn't have chocolate or ice cream or a little bit of what I wanted now and then...I think I would have given up a long time ago....I also don't have a lot of money to buy special things so the calories always come on the back of things at the grocery store..not hard for me..I think the important thing is to know what works for you. Everyone is different. I am a simple person..Can't be too time consuming or complicated or I won't do it! LOL Thanks for listening..It's kind of embarrassing to talk about, but sort of interesting when it starts to work! Gena |

Thanks for sharing Gena. Moderation, balance, finding a plan that works and that complements your particular health issues - which for you includes having had high blood sugars with diabetes is an excellent plan. God created all of us differently, formulas, textbooks, and scientists do their best guess at that point in time, then you wait a little bit, and they might change their minds. I remember being told peanuts are filled with fat and are bad, now we hear, they are filled with heart healthy fats and a small amount daily is even recommended. Enjoy your new health, enjoy the clothes shopping and follow your heart, do what makes you happy. Josie |

Gena- I wonder what it is in the Subway bread that bothers your blood sugar. The bread is the best part for me there. LOL! |

I know I love the bread too! I always felt so holy eating at Subway like I was doing the most Healthy thing! LOL Little did I know Big Macs were better for my blood sugar! Boo Hoo! I can't have very much fun with my food these days, so I have to get creative other ways! Amazing what you can spend your money on when it isn't wasted on fast food though ! Gena |

Gena: I don't have time to look up the nutritional content of big macs vs. subway right this minute, so guessing on this one, but probably all the extra fat and even protein in the big mac has less of an effect on your blood sugar than the subway which has more carbs in the bread, and added veges, ever notice what a small portion of meat they put on the subway sandwiches? have a great day, hugs, Josie. |

Thanks for asking Angelbear and TRose. The battle of the bulge continues! LOL I lost 11 pounds in June. My weight seems to have a mind of its own. It falls off in nasty lumpy globs! I have been doing the same thing since January. 1500 calories. I have gotten pretty good at it. Second nature now. I could improve on my exercise habit...I am so busy it is hard to get to the gym as often as I'd like. I've noticed that the further down in weight I go the faster the sizes decrease! I've lost 50 pounds and I will probably lose another 40. I am more interested in the health aspect. All of my labs are normal now. My blood sugar levels are normal and so are my cholestrol levels. So I am pleased with the results. If I focused only on the weight loss I think I'd be discouraged as it is a bit slow when you try to do it right and in a healthy manner. However, I think I've changed the way I think about food. I will probably stay healthy for the rest of my life. I'd love to see the day when my body looks as good on the outside as it is on the inside. Gena |
