Francois Arthur Devick was born in 1863 in Marylebone and is found on the 1881 and 1901 census images listed as Francis.  I am trying to find him on the 1871 census with his parents and any siblings.  So far no luck.  What I do know is that his father was born in Belgium.

However, on the 1861 census (before Francois was born) there are two entries for the Devick name having been born in Belgium - one is Joseph and his wife Sarah and the other with just the name "Devick" listed and his wife Jane.  Purely based on the fact I can find no records of Francois living with Joseph & Sarah I'm feeling his parents were the unknown Devick & Jane.

The snag is finding them on any of the census images as I have found two death records for Jane Devick (one in 1863 and the other in 1876).  I've searched for Jane Devick in the hope of finding the Christian name of her husband; I've searched for Joseph Devick in the hope of finding a brother and parents; I've searched for Francois/Francis on the 1891 (he was a lodger on the 1881) - all to no avail.

There are various combinations of the name to bear in mind too - DeVick, Devick, D'Vick, Deveck, Derick - this list is endless really but still producing nothing.

I would really like to pinpoint Francois' parents and because I cannot find a marriage record for him to Sarah E (born 1865 in Southampton) - as on the 1901 census - her maiden name also remains a mystery.

Any help/information ENORMOUSLY appreciated.

Kay

Hi Kay

I will have a search around the censuses and see if I can find him for you.

Thank you Marian - it's really the 1891 for him and 1861 for his parents I really need.

Hi Kay - Louis was Henry Louis.  You may have these already though.

Kay - In 1861 I found your Mr Devick living at 24 Park Street, Dorset Square, Marylebone - occupation Tailor - b Belgium c1821 with wife Jane S. Devick b Dorset c1832.  Children Louis 3 and Sarah S. 15 months both b Marylebone.

I am thinking that Mr Devick may have married twice.

I am not sure if you have seen the attached?

I found Joseph Devick on the 1871 - master tailor born Brussels, Belgium c1819.  I feel sure this is the same Mr Devick as above.  He is living in Dorset Square again, at 18 Upper Baker Street.  His wife is Sarah and she is ten years older than him born c1809 Gorleston, Suffolk.  Son Joseph L. Devick also a tailor age 26 and unmarried.

You probably have this already, but the age of 42 seems to fit doesn't it?
