Aboriginal peoples in North America were already involved in the fur trade when the Europeans first arrived on the shores of this continent. Furs provided them with a source of food, clothing, shelter, and ornaments. The creator also held a sacred relationship between the Ojibway and the animals that inhabit the earth. Intensive trading activities took place among tribes through out the continent
Upon the arrival of the explorers, beaver pelts were the first items to be traded in exchange for cooking pots and ornamental items. As the industry grew, the Hudsons�?Bay Company became charted in 1673, giving them the rights to trade in the Hudsons�?Bay watershed area. Soon other fur trading companies also exploited the fur trading opportunities available in the so called "new world". The fur industry is directly responsible for the development and the establishment of this country. The English and theFrench primarily credit themselves in the nation building of Canada but ignore the great contributions made by the First Peoples
