just lately i go to shut down my puter and it wont do it so have to turn it off at the mains it doesnt do it all the time maybe a few times a week is it my puter or is it just windows

try doing a system clean up sometimes its cos there are too many things on the pc mine used to do it and it still does now and again but not often

Do a system scan.... maybe you have a dirty track on yr hard drive.
 
Failing that try and reinstall windows...
 
Does it when it doesnt shuf just give you a blank screen with a white curser flashing ?
when you power up the pc does it do a system scan ?
Have you tried putting the problem in the help section of windows ?

no dizz it just stays on i can still use the pc it just wont shut down it also does not do a scan when i turn it  back on after switching off at the sockett it  never has i have had to reinstall windows in the past for other problems and it didnt do a scan if crashed or turned off from the mains even when i first got puter

Eelie id still advise to do a sys scan you can do it manually .....
Start, programms, accessories, system tools...
 
Im sure there is someway of setting it so it will scan if you switch it off at the wall.  Cos im sure it damages the disk in time.
 
The scan disk will repair any physical abnornalities on there.
 
What options does it give you when you want to shut it down??
 
You press start  , shut down , and then what ?

i press start shut down get log off turn off and restart
 
i cannot find scan disk where you saud to go i got system restore defrag system info  character map disk cleanup scheduled tasks

Eelie, go to my computer/right click on the hard drive icon/choose properties/ and then click the tools tab.
Disk scan should be in there hun. xxx

ty i have done a scan disk it didnt say if there was a problem so hopefully its sorted now but i did speak to my brother and he said that it is just windows
