Hi Folks;

Well its Thursday again and time for a new brickwall. If MSN would get its act together we could do more than one a week and speed this process up.

Although, we didn't find a pic of Walter Borem for Carrie/Mary, and although we're not really geared toward handling requests on people who died so recently, we've, hopefully provided sufficient points of contact to lead to one. Also, in re the yearbook pic that Mary already has, it could be enhanced --one of our volunteers does that sort of work pro-bono. Unfortunately, I don't recall who and haven' t been able to locate the message announicng same. Ms. volunteer, whoever you are, would you like to take this one on?

This week brickwall is Pat's with "BULLARD-JENKS-Ogle Co." posted on 21 Aug 2002.(it was actually posted on the "Brickwalls List" on 1 Jan 2001) Pat's brickwall posting reads:
"Seek death of Emeline (MINER) JENKS BULLARD B.1849 IL. Alive in 1891 in Lynnville, Ogle, IL. Also marriage or death of her daughter, Jennie JENKS b.l875 IL. Spouse unknown. Alive in 1880. Pat Maher"

Update for 3 June 2003, reads:
"(Need) some help on my Emeline BULLARD death and death or marriage of her daughter Jennie JENKS/JINKS? Emeline lived in Ogle Co IL in 1891 but could have moved to another county, I suppose. I have tried the entire search on the index web sites. Would like to hear from you."

*****
Following Pat was supposed to be be DoDah (aka Carol) who is researching "MAY, HICKLE, and KILLOUGH". However, Janie informs me that she no longer needs information on them. So we'll be addressing the next brickwall on the list which is dewheels/dsdswheels (aka Dale) with "STEWARTS of Illinois, Indiana", posted on 28 August 2002, and reads:
" My brick wall for my STEWART family is with Paulina STEWART She is my G-G-Grandmother. I do not know her husband's name. She was supposed to have been born in Indiana in abt. 1835. She had two children that I know of: Julia Ann, b. 1853 and Daniel b. abt 1855. They were listed in the 1860 Census of Montgomery Co. Illinois. Both children are listed as being born in Illinois. No husband was listed. She later married a Thomas CALVIN or COLVIN on Aug. 21, 1863. Date of death not known."

Update from 14 September 2002 reads:
"Can anyone tell me if someone who worked for the railroads would be listed on the SSDI listing after their death? Several members of my WHEELER family worked for different railroads and so far I have not had much luck in locating them. If they are not listed on the SSDI, is there a separate list available that would show them???"

To which Melody responded.
"Dale, I have found many of my railroad working relatives in the Social Security Death Index. One thing I noticed which confounds matters is that I cannot use the state of issuance, and maybe some of the other search terms. Melody"

Another update, from 14 September 2002, this one to the Surnames list reads:
"I am actively seeking anyone with information on my WHEELER family tree, I currently live in Southern Illinois. My families came from Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, the Carolinas, the Virginias and many points east;
WHEELER/LINVILLE/STEWART/FRYE/CUNNINGHAM/PEARCE/WILSON/McCALLISTER/LACY/STAUFFER/ROBERTS/ROE/ROWE"

Dale, since you got a lot of responses to this one would you care to update?

*****
After Dale is Lynne with "HENRICHS family of Cook County", posted on September 6 2001, reads:
"Seeking any and all possible information concerning this family. Mine came from PA to Cook County in the late 1800's."

To which I had responded with some census and other data which may have been relevant.

Update from 18 September 2002 reads:
"My 3rd great grandparents were Sophia DRIFS and Joseph HEINRICHS. They came from Prussia and settled in Schuylkill County, PA around 1867. Joseph died in 1869 and Sophia supposedly relocated to Cook County, IL. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I am lost from this point. Can anyone help me? I sure would appreciate any leads."

Melody responded with:
"You might want to try your search by going through one of their grandchildren--
HENRICHS, farmer, P.O. Numidia, was born in Prussia, Germany, February 6, 1847, a son of Joseph and Sophia (DRIFS) HENRICKS, natives of Germany. His father followed farming in the old country, and in 1867 with his family took passage on a sailing vessel at Hamburg, and landed in New York after a voyage of six weeks. They came direct from New York to Ashland, Schuylkill Co., Penn., where they settled, and there our subject and his father worked in the Big Mine Run mines for about three years. Our subject then learned the carpenter’s trade, and followed it until moving to his present residence, with the exception of about two years, when he again worked in the mines. His father died in 1869 in Ashland, but his mother is still living and resides in Cook County, Ill. They were the parents of nine children, six of whom are still living: Charles; Rechor, wife of Joe BLANCH; John; Caroline, wife of Charles BLANCHE; Mona and Sophia. In 1880 our subject bought the farm where he now lives, consisting of 108 acres. April 8, 1869, he married Minnie HANS, and the following children were born to them: Frederick, John (deceased), Charles, Hannah (deceased), William, Christian, August, Martyn and Emma. Mr. and Mrs. HENRICKS are members of the Lutheran Church, and he is also a member of the Grange. (History of Columbia and Montour Counties Pennsylvania, Battle, 1887, pg. 494-5)"

A second update from 16 January 2003 reads:
"Am especially interested in Sophia (DRIFS) HENRICHS, wife of Joseph HENRICHS. They came to America from Prussia in the 1860's, settled in Pennsylvania. He died after being here only a couple of years and she relocated with the younger children to Cook County, IL. I believe that she was still living in Cook County as late as 1887. I found a biography on her son, my 3ggrandfather that was published in 1887 stating that "she now lives in Cook County, IL" This has been my brick wall for several years. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Lynne"

Yet a third update from 17 January 2003 reads:
Joseph and Sophia HENRICHS emigrated from Prussia to PA in 1867. They brought the following children with them:
Charles (b. 1847)
Rechor (b. ~1850) md. Joe BLANCH
John (b.~1856)
Caroline (b.~1859) md. Charles BLANCH
Mona (b. ~1860)
Wilamina (b.~1862)
Sophia (b.~1865)

Joseph died in 1869. After his death, Sophie and most of the children moved to Cook County, IL.. Charles, my 2great-grandfather, stayed in PA with his new bride, Minnie HANS. I think all the others moved with Sophie. I would imagine that the Joseph and Sophie Hinrichs found in Germans to America, 1850-1874 would be a good lead. That last name has been butchered all of my life. I have found my grandfather and his father under some strange spellings in census records that I know are my family. I have lots of information on Charles and his family, but nothing more than what I have shared for his parents and siblings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Lynne (Henrichs) Chick"

I'm also sending this message to the relevant personal accounts.

Cheers, Wayne

This is obviously your family. The name for the kids definitely looks like Minon vice Miner but the name for Elizabeth could be Miner or Minor. The handwriting has a lot of flourishes. Note that Emeline was a twin. Cheers, Wayne

Here are 1850 census entries which may be related to you.
Note 1: John L. Strong now looks like John L. Strang.
Note 2: Emeline's maternal grandmother is probably Susannah Casson--Casson is an Anglo-Irish name in my wife's family on the Eastern Shore of MD--we need to keep in touch as we do our genealogy. Cheers, Wayne

Was interested to see that were were Miners (Minors) in Ogle Co. I am
a descendent of Miners. If you have read much about Ogle County, you may
have read that there was a M.M. York which stood for Manassah Minor York
( went by Minor) and the Miners that we came through was from Stonington,
CT, via Bradford Co. PA. We took a trip east and visited the cemetery
where the original Miners are buried there. Have pictures that I could
email you, if you go back to that line.

Am also interested in your Jenks line.I have a Jenks in another line who
marries a Humphrey in NY. If you are interested in pictures, etc., email
me directly.

It was nice to hear from you. I have been searching for a "Miner" connections
in Ogle County for a long time.

I have not hear of MM York. How is he connected to the Ogle County Miner family?

It is also unclear to me how your branch of the Miner family relates to my branch
of the Miner family (see below).I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. My
e-mail address is [email protected]

Allen Miner was born in Connecticut in about 1810
Elizabeth (Carson??) was born in England in about 1818
Allen Miner married Elizabeth in about 1840 in New York.

They had six children named:
(1) Elizabeth - born 1841 in New York
Married Henry F. Wade February 22, 1858 at Monroe in Ogle County Illinois.
(2) Charles E. - born 1843 in New York (he was my great grandfather)
Married Urana Petry (Petrie) February 27, 1886, Winnebago County, Illinois. They
listed their residence as Davis Junction, Ogle County.
Previous to this marriage, Charles E. Miner was married to Caroline Miner and lived
in Minn.
(3) William - born 1844 in Illinois
(4) Eveline - born 1849 in Lynnville, Illinois
Married ??? Delos Edwards Nov. 15, 1867 at Belvidere, Boon County, IL.
(5) Emeline - born 1849 in Lynnville, Illinois
Married William H. Jenks, November 18, 1869 at Ogle County, Illinois
(6) Albert Allen - born about 1850 in Lynnville, Illinois (born after
the death of his father)

As noted above, Emeline Miner married William H. Jenks, November 18, 1869
at Ogle County, Illinois.

I hope to hear from you, and hope that our families are connected.

Hi Folks;

Just got an update from Dale, as follows:

"Sorry for the delay in responding, my notes were still packed away following a move.

I have had one possible lead on my brick wall. Found some research attributed to " Maurice Bruce and James Mclauchlin " that may indicate that Paulina or Perlina Stewart had been married to a Joseph Stewart or Steward. I have also found census information that shows Paulina and her two children living next door to the Naill family. There has been indication that this was part of her family and her maiden name was Naill or Naile.

After her first husbands death, records show she married a Thomas Calvin or Colvin. The above researchers show her have many more children. I am unsure that there is a direct connection, but the simularity in names forces me to check it out in greater detail.

Any help in finding more information would be greatly appreciated, even if it means that the above information was not correct.

Dale"

I really dug deep trying to find something about Paulina Stewart.

First I went to the marriage index and searched the state for grooms beginning with STEW.  With my 'FIND' function I looked for the number sequence 184 [for any marriages in the 1840's] and found no Paulina matched up with anyone.  Then I did  the same with 1850, 1851, and 1852 with no success.

After that I went to the transcribed records for the 1850 Montgomery County census.  First I used my find function for the consecutive letters PAUL.  After that I did LINE and after that a LINA.  I found one PALINA, age 2.

However, I did find a Parlina Baker, who looks like she is living with her parents
110A 42 Baker Parlina 17 Ills pg0102b.txt

examining neighbors, I found a Charles Seward who looks to have been living with his mother.
106A 9 Seward Charles 28 Ills pg0102b.txt , but can't tell if Jane is a wife or a sister.
..............................................................................................................................................................................................

If this is the marriage of David, you may wish to order the marriage record.  Names of parents should be on it.

STEWART, DANIEL W                    WHITE, MARY (MRS)                    01/02/1894 001/0216 00010056 MONTGOMERY

Unfortunately, it seems that Julia married before 1878, so her record will not have additional information.

Dale,
Found this at Ancestry.com
CALVIN, THOMAS
Spouse: STEWART, PAULINA [Mrs] Marriage Date: 21 Aug 1863
  County: Montgomery State: IL

From looking at this I would say that Stewart was her 1st married name not her birth name.

Hi Folks;

Pat just sent me the following response to our Brainstorming session on the Bullard-Jenks brickwall. Cheers, Wayne

Dear Wayne -- The volunteers have really been working hard for me and I apologize for my delay in getting back to you. But I do not seem to know how to navigate the web site properly so that if I find something today, I cannot always find it again tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have most of what was posted. I am trying to find a death for Emeline (MINER) JENKS BULLARD. She met, married Miles BULLARD AS #2 and was divorced from him in Nebraska. The latter probably before 1887 when Miles married again. In 1891, Emeline signed entry papers for her brother Charles E MINER into the Soldier's Home in Quincy. She says she is residing in Lynnville, Ogle, IL.

This is the last I find her. I would like to find her death.

I would also like to know what happened to daughter, Jennie Jenks, born 1872
in IL. Did she stay in Nebraska? Return to Illinois with her mother?
Jennie did NOT go with Miles as he was not her father, but Laurin BULLARD went with Miles who WAS his father.
The PULLIN/JENKS were related and came from England much later than the MINERS. I believe they came together. PULLIN is the one who donated the land for the cemetery in Lynnville. One thing I have forgotten to do is to check the PULLIN family to see if Emeline or Jennie might be living with PULLIN after the death of first husband William JENKS in 1872. Killed in a tragic hunting accident. I believe they were living in Rochelle at that time. Newspaper account of the accident did not mention a daughter so perhaps Jennie was born after his death.

Although Emeline BULLARD is not listed on a transcript of Lynnville Cemetery, the sextant DOES have a pencil entry on her original copy of the Register that says "Mrs Bullard". Elizabeth MINER b.1818 England and EMELINE's mother, DID marry John STRANG about 1870 and was dead about 1875.

I wish I'd had all that info from the volunteers 12 years ago, as now I am looking for these two people from 1891 and on. Too bad.

I know this is lengthy, Wayne, and I apologize for that but it seemed a more detailed explanation was in order. My thanks to all of you.
Pat. Maher
