It's been three days since I got an IKK message, but I have entered through the old message and looked around. I couldn't tell if we have an assigned brick wall, or not. |

Has anyone heard from peeweeqp? Please, Folks - if you are getting anything from the Team's efforts, why not let them know? A week is a long time to work on someone's brick wall only to wonder if the information is even being read by the poster. When we started this project we stated that we would give the Brick Walls poster 3 days to respond to anything that was found on his/her behalf. The Team gives a full week to each and every one and sometimes they hear nothing even after that week is up. They are very generous with their time and I feel they deserve better, so please - at least acknowledge their efforts within a reasonable time. For those who have benefitted from their work and let them know, we thank you! |

I had a brick wall posted, but I managed to find the answer to it. I now have a new one! My gg-grandmother was born, according to her son's birth certificate, in "Painshill, Maryland". I cannot seem to find this on any map. She married a man, Theodore W. Smith, from Chambersburg, Franklin, PA., so maybe it was close to there. Her son, my g-grandfather, Theodore William Smith, Jr., was born in Franklin Grove, Lee, Illinois. He married in Sangamon county, Illinois in 1891. His wife, Ophelia (Cheney) and he had two sons, Clifford and Lowell(my bio-grandfather). Ophelia died and he married her sister Phoebe(Cheney). They had no children that I know of. In 1920 census, Theodore W. Smith Jr. was living in Boody,Macon, Illinois with wife Anna and 13 year old son Cecil. I have been unable to find out anything about Clifford Smith (born c. 1892) or Cecil Smith, (born c. 1907). Theodore W. Smith Jr. died in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois on May 29, 1939. He was born in Lee county,IL Nov.19,1861. Any help with Painshill, Cecil or Clifford would be greatly appreciated. I am "stumped". Bob O. [email protected]

Hello, I am trying to find out some info about a town in McLean County, Illinois. It is from a birth certificate. The person on the cert. is my wife's biological father. His name was Ivan Reese Pleasant. The doctor lived in Farmer City, Illinois. The cert. states the residence of the parents, James Pleasant(born TN) and Fannie Spencer(born KY) as being "Weedman, ILL." Can anyone tell me where Weedman was? I cant find it on a map, and I even looked on a map from 1965. Ivan was born in 1922. Any help will be accepted with gratitude and an attempt to help anyone else with a problem. I used to live in Decatur,Macon,ILL. Most of my family came from Sangamon and Menard counties. Thanks much, [email protected]

MrLucky;
We live in MD and my wife is a native. Neither of us has heard of Painshill, MD, Layhill yes, Snowhill yes, but not Painshill. On the other hand there is a Painshill Park in England--London I believe. Is it possible that the MD part is wrong? Masugu

Okay MrLucky;
Here's my first cut. these messages were on Ancestry's message board. Based
on the 2nd message it looks as though Malcomb died before the 1870 Census.
I'll have to check to see whether there is an 1860 Census for Greene Co.
IN or Montgomery Co. IL, on-line. Masugu

MrLucky;
I don't doubt your word. But we can't find anything close to that name. I
checked local maps as well as 6 on-line mapping services--no joy. A Google
search on "Painshill Maryland" gives the following:

I assume the first entry is one posted by you, 2 -4 all refer to a locale(s) in the UK and 5 is anybody's guess.
It may have been a private estate, plantation or an institution. Alternatively,
sometimes "placenames" in Maryland, such as Armiger, are actually just post
offices with no incorporated place associated with them--perhaps Painshill
was one of these. (Please note, with the suburban growth in Anne Arundel
Co., MD, Armiger has now become a real place in MD.)
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Masugu

Mr. Lucky, Even searching Maryland ghost towns, I did not run across Painshill. I did go to Mapquest.com and typed in 'Pains Hill' as the city and no state. It gave a number of Pains Hills, including one in the D.C. area., but as I zoom in, I lose it. Maybe you can do better. |
