Hi Folks;

Since Lynne seemed more than satisfied with what we gave her, we'll move on to the next brickwall. This one is from Rosey and was posted last Halloween. Rosey, since you said that you were gonna be making some genealogy trips could you update us on this a little? Did you make any dents in your brickwalls since you posted (see below)?

We're also gonna start something new this time and include the next two brickwalls in line. This will allow the posters of these brickwalls more time to see and respond. The next two brickwalls after Rosey are: 1) Elmira Brown and Joseph Thomas posted by Mac1; and 2) Wigginton, Simmons, Adams, Wilson, Goddard posted by Gail. Cheers, Wayne

This is what Rosey posted:
From Rose Fawn 10/31/2002
Minnard or Minniard Snelson
Minniard, Mynard, Minnard Snelson was born abt. 1775 in Vriginia. Married Adelphia 'Delphy' ? Served in the Kentucky militia. Son Charles H. Snelson B: Abt. 1805 (not sure id KY, OH or IL -nothing found yet) married second wife, Dorothy Cantrall daughter of William Cantrell and Deborah Mitts. She was born in KY, they were married August 27, 1827 in Sangamon County Ill.

They moved on to Iowa where they ran into the biggest wall I have come across in 4 years of researching my mother's and (this) my father's family, The Smith's!

My grand father was Charles William Smith born July 9, 1878 Cedar Rapids, IO; his father was Leslie Smith that was married to Laura Sewell, she was born in Canada and him in Ohio; this is all the information that I have EVER been able to find on my Great Grandparents. We know by seeing dates and people, that they all moved the same, KY, OH, IL and most winding up in Iowa. Charles was married to Rosa Mae Snelson (One of the the links to IL, her father was Charles William (called William) Snelson and Mary Eveline (Linee) Tripp. Now I have found Linee, but she ran off...put the kids on a train back to Chicago where he was working in the packing houses. Charles William Smith and Rosa Mae Snelson were married in Correctionsville, Iowa, 1905.

I have found a good deal of the Snelson's in Sangamon County and find that they all filtered into Iowa. We can find NOTHING of Linee that took off, she disappeared. I have found Tripp's that have found up to the time she left William, but nothing no-where after that. Leslie Smith and Laura Sewell, I have been looking for over a year for.......sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

On census records, Charles William Smith has stated that his father is from Ohio and his mother is from Canada that is all the information on them....

Now for Charles William Snelson and Linee Tripp...Charles' family I have back to Minniard, but at a stand still back with him, no biggie there I am sure that in time and with the trip to Salt Lake after the first of the year I can find information...it is Linne Tripp and The Smith's that get me doing the Gen-Bang on the wall!!!

Anyway...If there is anyone that could help out with this I would greatly appreciate it. Just after Thanksgiving am going to the Madison,WI Library and spending 2 days up there of work. Then after the first of the year going to Salt Lake City to THE library there.

If any more information is needed, let me know, I will give it to you if I surely have it..... Rosey

"I and my family are seeking information on Mary Evaline "Linee" Tripp Born: 1869 Bordley, Union County, Kentucky. We know that she at sometime moved to Iowa marrying Charles William Snelson in April 15, 1888 Mahaska County Iowa. They had 3 children Rosa, Bertha, and Lesie William. The story goes that Charles being a butcher and out of work went to Chicago, IL possibly finding work in a meat packing plant. He sent for her and the children. Linee put the children on the train to him and did not go with them. There has been no further mention of her. There is a rumor, but has not been able to be proven that she went to Colorado. William returned to Iowa and left the children to be raised by his mother and father, Andrew Jackson Snelson and Sarah Ann Hibbs. He left just the girls and took Leslie William Snelson with him. Family stories have been told by Rosa Smith that her mother would visit but was more friendly with Bertha. William moved to Washington State and died in Seatle April 24,1932.That is about all the information that we have on her. If anyone has any information about Mary Evaline "Linee" Tripp it would be greatly appreciated if you would contact me."

This ouhgt to give you at least some new information. Cheers, Wayne

Rosey;

One more piece of the puzzle. This is the entry for Linee Tripp in the
1870 Census for Y--note that her mother was named Mary E. also.

Hi Folks;

Since MSN has been so flukey of late we'll give Rosey one more day to
respond. After that we'll move on to Mac1's brickwall--Mac1, are you
listening? Cheers, Wayne

Hi Folks;

Well since we haven't heard from Rosey (and since we've already found a lot of data on her family) we'll move on to Mac1 (Beverly). Although Beverly's response didn't appear in my e-mail, there was a response listed in her e-mail record (MSN stikees again) and she say's she still really needs help with her two brick walls:
1) Elmira Thomas (nee Brown), b. 22 Jun 1834 IL; m.1)Joseph Thomas ca 1855 poss. in Woodbine Twp., Jo Davies Co. IL, m.2)William Prothero ca. 1865 or later in California., d. ?, FPOB: TN, MPOB: KY;

2) Joseph Thomas, b. ca. 1836 CONN, d. ca. 1865 on way to California.

Children:
Mary Louisa Thomas, b. 1856 Woodbine Twp.
Melvina Thomas, b. 1860;
Josephine Evelyn Thomas, b. 1862

Since Bev has already responded (see below) we'll give this one a week or until Bev yells Uncle--whichever comes first. So, come on gang lets see what we can do for Bev!

From: Mac1 Sent: 3/3/2003 1:15 PM
I am searching for information on Elmira BROWN, particularly her ancestors. She was born in Illinois 22 June, 1834, exact location unknown. She next shows up in Woodbine Twp, Jo Daviess Co, married to Joseph THOMAS. He was born in Connecticut about 1836, exact location unknown. They were probably married about 1855. Their first child, Mary Louisa THOMAS, was born in Woodbine Twp in 1856. Two more girls were born to them there. Melvina THOMAS, 1860, and Josephine Eveline THOMAS, 1862. In 1865 the family left for California, Joseph dying on the trail, and Elmira remarying in California to William Prothero. The 1880 census shows Elmira's father was born in Tennessee and her mother was born in Kentucky.

Our next two winners will be Gail and MOM. Any updates ladies?

Cheers and Good Hunting, Wayne

Okay Bev;

Looks like we hit paydirt. Enjoy, Wayne

I think I found Elmira in the 1850 Census for Hendersonville, IL--looks
like they forgot to put a 1 in front of the 7. I assume that Elizabeth
Hase is her mother, James Brown is her brother, Isaac Hase--maternal
grandfather perhaps and Frances Hase--maternal g-grandmother perhaps?

There were only two Joseph Thomas's indexed for CT in 1850. Since the
other one was 4 and married this one is a better bet. Note that he is
living with the family of another carpenter--probably as an apprentice.

By 1870 Elmira has married William Prothero and has a newborn son by
him. She also had a 4th daughter by Joseph Thomas.

the birth dates. The numbers after marital status for the women indicate

Hello, I have been trying to find out about my wife's grandfather. His name
was James ( either Samuel or Lemuel ) Pleasant. He worked for the railroad.
Don't know which one, but suposedly was killed by being caught between two
traain cars, in 1938. His son was born in IL, his wife died in IN in 1974.
Her name was Fannie Pleasant. She has stated, before she died, that he died
in 1938. Does any one know who I would contact about an accident at a
railroad? Thanks, Bob O.

Wayne, Masugu, and anyone else involved,

I want to give a great big thanks to you for this breakthrough. This
gives me a whole new direction to investigate and verify. What you
have given me on the Prothero portion verifies what I have now. Is
there an 1860 Illinois census available? It may verify their living
and giving birth to the children in Woodbine Twp, Jo Daviess Co. What
I know of that is just family lore.

Josephine Eveline Thomas was my grandmother and I got some information
from her, but she was just a small child then and may have been wrong.
She did remember, when the people on the wagon train learned of
President Lincoln,s death, they draped their teams and wagons with
black crepe in mourning.

Again, I want to thank everyone, and I will happily answer anyone who
wants to discuss this family.

Bev;

There is no one place on-line htat has the 1860 census indexed. You can
find bits and pieces, and for some counties in IL an SKS has done the
1860 index-its serendipity. If I were you I'd start looking for
historical and genealogical societies in the appropriate counties in IL
and CA. There is usually a KS who will go the extra mile to find data
for you. Also, Gordon or Melody may yet come through with some bit of
magic for you--they have a way of winkling out the hard-to-find stuff.

Hope the data I sent helped. Did you already know about Catherine Thomas?

Cheers, Wayne

Beverly,
I checked my favorite site to purchase census CD's but they only have
1910 available. www.allcensus.com
Have you check www.iltrails.org ? This is a little know Illinois genealogy
site that has different information from the other county sites. M.O.M.

Wayne,

I want to thank you again for all the material you gave me. It will
take me months to integrate it into what I already have.

You asked about Catherine Thomas. Yes, my parents told me about her,
and I remember seeing her when I was a small child. I an now 75 yrs
old, so that was a long time ago. I was raised in Round Valley, where
Covelo is located, and where much of the family finally settled.
Also, thanks for the advice, I will try that.
