Britton H. Yarber was released from the hospital in St. Louis and died at home in Pope CO.Il 3JUN1863.  His wife filed pension papers, and that is why I know his death date.  I cannot find a burial.  His wife was Amanda Parrott and she filed in Hardin,CO.IL, which is the next county over.  I have tried unsuccessfully to find his burial.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Did they try to keep a file of the soldiers in the county at that time?  He was in the 31st IL Infantry.

It might be worth your while to write to the Hardin and Pope counties H & G Society to see what publications they may have.  Possibly, since he was in the Military, he could have a marker.  We tend to forget that these Societies publish many treasures.  The people from those groups would be able to give you an idea.  Remember to send a SASE when contacting any of these county groups.

Ramona,
Pope Co. is my territory (and Momaeagles and Prudy's kinda). Take at look at the lookups board and check out my Pope Co. books.   I just checked the PC cemetery books and there are no Yarber's listed. The cemetery books only cover half of the county. Part of Pope Co. later became Hardin Co. too. As far as I know the Historical Society doesn't have a listing of where Civil War vets are buried. There is a hard covered book that tells were all the Civil War vets are buried in the state from the war records (I think). Many of the early burials do not have tombstones, only field stones. Many were buried on the family farm and no evidence of the burial is left.
Check out the Pope Co. site at www.rootsweb.com/~ilpope    and www.iltrails.org  .    I'll did around and see what I find on the Yarber's.  M.O.M.

I found a couple of other researchers for you:
Surnames: YARBER YARBROUGH PARROTT DUNAWAY BURNS SPRAGUE WINFIELD WAGGENER
MOSELY
Submitter: Don Yarber ([email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>)
Date: 03 Jul 1999

Seeking descendants of John and Mary Yarbrough who were on the 1860 Census in
Elizabethtown Precinct. They had sons: George, John, Britton, Larkin, Robert
and William and daughter Nancy. John was born in NC 1810/1811 and Mary in
Tennessee 1812/1813. Britton married Amanda Parrott in 1857. She was daughter
of Joseph and Mida Parrott who had the following children: Henry, Martha
(married first to Mayfield then Mosely) Amanda, Miranda, Mary and Daniel. All
of these children were born in NC except Daniel who was born in Mo. Would
very much like to talk to any descendants of these people.

I would like to thank MoM and Melody for their hard research.  I have done all I can, and have looked for outside help.  Sometimes we overlook the obvious but in this case I cannot find anything.  Don Yarber is my cousin and I am Ramona who you have quoted in some of your messages.  We will go forth as we all do, and hope some of these inquiries will bring a closure.  I have gone to Hardin and Pope counties, and have researched every book that I am aware of.  Thank you to anyone who should read this message and reply.
There were two sisters in Hardin CO., who were part of these Yarbers.  Veda Yarber married Bob Hayes, and Loretta Yarber married a Turner.  I talked to Loretta before she died.  Their father was John Yarber and mother was ? Smith.  Their mother and two brothers died in the 1918 flu epidemic.  They are buried in the Whiteside cemetary. Their maternal grandparents were John Smith and ? Spivey.  They had a brother named George who died in WV on his 18th birthday.  Loretta said they were all there working on timber when he was killed.  I have not found a death certificate for him.  I am fairly aware of all the Surname connections to the Yarber line.  I have searched Civil War records for information to no avail.
