Its that time again. I trust Penny got enough to keep her busy for awhile.
I've decided to continue as we have been for now as trying to work two or more brickwalls simultaneously could turn out to be a comedy of errors (mostly mine, LOL). However, I am posting three brickwalls at a time as a heads-up and to allow those of you who NEED to do research, right now (I'm not naming any names--you know who you are, LOL), plenty of raw material.
So our next contestant is IL genealogy seeker (aka Laura) whose brickwall, entitled: MARTIN & HEADY-H-E-L-P!!!!!!!!!!!!, was posted on 29 May 2002. Since MSN is screwing things up I'm not going to levy ther 3-days rule. Laura if yiu're listening, please let us know if there are any updates.
Laura's brickwall postings reads as follows:
1) "My TWO brick walls:
ABRAHAM MARTIN born 9-4-1797 (either KY or S.C.); died 7-28-1852 Wayne County, IL. Married about 1823/1824 to MARY JANE ("POLLY") HEADY born 1801 VA (actually KY pre-statehood); died 7-20-1845 Wayne County, IL.
Can NOT seem to connect EITHER of them to their parents and/or siblings. ANY help/info/connections would be SINCERELY appreciated! Will share, too!"
2) "My maternal greatgrandmother's name was MARY ELIZABETH ("BETTY") SHELTON (CHILDRESS). All I know about her was that she married WILLIAM HARRISON SHELTON; and she was born in KY ( I THINK a town called Mayfield- but not certain).
I also know that her Father's name was WILL CHILDRESS. That is all of the info I have on her and/or her family. Could we have a connection here?
She and her husband WILLIAM H. SHELTON settled in Matthews, MO (New Madrid County); and lived there most of their lives. You can view both their headstones; and the headstones of many of their children in th New Madrid, MO GenWeb site- cemeteries/Matthews Cemetery.

The main Thompson I am looking for is Wiliam Young Thompson b: Sumner Co Tn md: Bethinia McGee b: AR lived in Clay County or Marion County, IL and raised their children there. This clan of Thompsons had a trucking company in Xenia & Salem Illinois and were supposed to have been in partnership with a couple other fellows who started Centralia Cartage trucking Co in Centralia, Marion County, IL would love to find any information on them at all especially William and Bethinia and their children. "I have a brickwall that's been stumping me for over 20 years. It concerns my 2xgr-grandfather Mathew MORRIS....(Note: "James" MAY HAVE BEEN his first ormiddle name). I guess I'll just plunge right in.
Mathew MORRIS--b.1823, OH to Levi & Jemima (LONG) MORRIS; d. 19 Apr 1862,
Paducah, McCracken Co., KY U.S. Hospital. On 14 Sept 1845, in Edgar Co.,
IL, Mathew MORRIS m. Mary [Roseanna?] HENSLEY--b. ca. 1825, IL to James &
Elizabeth (LEWIS) HENSLEY; d. 1 Jan 1895, Jasper Co., MO.
In 1850, Mathew & Elizabeth (LEWIS) MORRIS & their children (Dennis D.,
Jemima H., & Ellen Elizabeth) resided in Clay & Richland, Dist. # 14, Clay
Co., IL. By 1855 they had moved to Howard twp, Wayne Co., IA---where they
are found in the 1860 census. Mathew & Elizabeth had 3 more children, all
born in Wayne Co., IA (Mary Ann Catherine, Deborah Jane, & Tabitha
Angelina).
Mathew was a Private in the 18th Infantry MO Vol., Co. B-Private, enlisting
on 17 June 1861, at Putnam Co., MO. He was mustered in on 14 Nov 1861, at
Laclede at Camp Morgan, MO, at age 38. He was wounded at Pittsburg Landing,
TN at the Battle of Shiloh, 6 Apr 1862. He died 13 days later at Paducah,
McCracken Co., KY--U.S. Army Hospital. Mathew's unit was commanded by Capt.
Henry P. Shilts/Stults.
My brickwall-----WHERE IS HE BURIED???? The military records do not show
him being buried in Paducah, KY, & I haven't been able to find him elsewhere.

papers from the goverment.i got my ggrandfathers SAMUEL F ZORNES showed a welth
of info did he get a pension from the goverment or did his wife get one if so
will maybe show where they lived when he died and where he was buried.almeta

Found only one William Chlildress listed for 1870. Hew was a 19-year old African-American man living with his folks. I also found a William Childres (and lots of Childers) whose wife might have still been of child-bearing age in 1877. Both follow.

Here are the results from Ancestry.com. The 1840 census data looks good. The 1850 may be relatives. I didn't find Wm. & Betty Shelton in the 1920 & '30 Census for New Madrid Co. MO. Cheers, Wayne
